nop, y chromosome degeneration is a very real thing - the process already completed in a few species
Turns out - no biggie, the sex determinant just switches to something else (often de facto Turner syndrome but without the side effects, or everyone has XX and the genes that determine if male or if female are transferred to another chromosome)
