Have you noticed the brightness of your clothes? (self.asktrp)

submitted by Wrath_of_Trump

I used to be a guy that only wore darks, maybe just a basic black t shirt or button down to the bar, but I've switched it up a lot lately with brighter colors and I think it's actually made me more approachable. Subconsciously it feeds into a more "youthful" vibe as well which seems to help me in the field. You guys ever try this or notice? I don't know if I'm hallucinating, but at some level I can see how dark colors might make interactions seem more risky or add a trust/comfort barrier

I have noticed this a bit. I used to wear black shirts most days, but wearing a nice colorful shirt that matches well with your pants seems to make people look at you a bit more, at least enough to be noticeable. I'm not sure where it comes from but subconsciously I think of people who wear colorful clothes (not neon or tie die) as more friendly

Dude it’s actually a huge deal. I’ve noticed when I wear a lighter blue, my skin and everything looks more vibrant. I get a fuck ton of iois wearing light blue fitted tops. Just my observation and experience.

It's a crazy difference for me, I almost don't want to wear ANY of my darks anymore. I used to be pale as shit that's why I liked darks but I got a nice bronze now and colors fit very nicely. Even switching from black to navy blue works, but I'm really fond of faded purple and this faded pink & blue stripe shirt. I used to wear button downs to the bar thinking I'm hot shit, but honestly wearing t shirts and shorts is the best change I've made. It's a lot easier to not give a fuck when you actually look like you don't give a fuck.

The advantages of dark/black clothing: if you soil it, rub some dirt on it, etc., it is not very noticeable. Also, practical for burglaries and other night crimes.

[–]Wrath_of_Trump[S] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I'll risk having soil visible on my shirt if the color increases the probability I get laid

[–]Datanami 2 points3 points  (1 child)

The color of your shirt won't get you laid.

Lmao

[–]Stonecoldwatcher 6 points7 points  (1 child)

I've started to wear more white, red, pink. Girls love pink I've noticed, lol and it goes well with a full beard and BB-physique. Gotta watch out though, thin line between being interpreted as a homo. I rock black sometimes but never full on, gotta mix it up. Black jeans, white shirt. Pink shirt, dark blue jeans and so fourth. Single color is boring , always mix it up. From what I've read is that red stands out from the rest so if you want to get noticed wear some red and be confident and loud.

[–]Wrath_of_Trump[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've really been all about the faded purple v neck and this pale pink & thin blue stripe t shirt, and I wear black cotton shorts. It's really simple but god damn, I've been batting 1,000 in a snobby part of town where every bitch has 1,000 ig followers. They just love the chill, playful vibe I guess.

[–]zeekt12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Totally agree man. Difference is night and day. As long as your clothes are fitted well and the colours suit you, you’ll look aesthetic af. Also if you lift and are at a low body fat, you’ll look good in almost any clothes

[–]resnine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What kinda colors are we talking? like neons? bright blues, greens, reds, yellows? I usually wear all black this might be a problem.

[–]talexanderc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I peacock the heck out of some bright colors. I have extremely high smv donuts just fuel too the fire.

[–]aaaGreg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I keep it trad/preppy but also tastefully tailored. No black and plenty of pastels.

[–]ashleyshafer27 2 points3 points  (7 children)

Don’t know what skin color you are but I have to massively disagree. Olive, Brown, tan, off white, and neutral colors are very in right now. Salmon, bright pastels, etc are so 2016

[–]Wrath_of_Trump[S] 4 points5 points  (1 child)

White but with a healthy looking tan. I'm not talking about pastel shorts bros, I just mean blues and faded colors seem way more effective than black & white. I would rather wear a faded t shirt and shorts than a crisp black button down and fitted denim, I wish I knew this sooner. My fucking nuts would thank me in those hot ass dance floors.

[–]ashleyshafer27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh button downs are a different story. I don’t think anyone with slight fashion sense has worn a plain black button down since clubbing in the 2000s. Thought this stuff was common sense.

[–]npplz 6 points7 points  (4 children)

Who gives a shit what’s “in.” Wear what looks best on you

[–]LordOfTheReptiles 1 point2 points  (3 children)

I think the point is more that sometimes what’s “in” does look best. Keep in mind that at one point in time, the 80’s for example, outfits that look ridiculous by today’s standards were actually what looked good. Styles change, people adapt, and you can often look back on previous trends and laugh at what you thought looked great at the time (baggy jeans and oversized t-shirts comes to mind). Staying current helps a lot imo.

[–]npplz 4 points5 points  (2 children)

I agree with that but saying you can’t wear certain colors because they’re “too 2016” is completely moronic

[–]ashleyshafer27 -3 points-2 points  (1 child)

Enjoy your crocs and sperrys

[–]npplz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Crocs and sperrys? Don’t worry we can agree on that haha. Being picky about colors is just fucking stupid though. Maybe if you’re a skinny bitch then it might matter more

[–]Beegoop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is one of the most basic things to know for fashion/style.

Who knew that more vibrant hues portray a more vibrant persona than something like all black/darker hues.

[–]HannibalBacara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Royal blue button down is my go to during the fall/winter and then during the summer I switch it over to a sky blue short sleeve button down so I can show off my arms and tan lol.

I find myself never wearing black when I go out anymore. The closest I get is a navy blue bomber jacket.

[–]Comeandseemeforonce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think being more standoutish is even better. I'm 6'3 183 muscular physique wearing skinny jeans and fitted t-shirts, got told I dress like a rapper a lot. Got more attention in college when I switched my style up and still continues.

[–]Martysteiner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it's red T-shirts. It matches my red beard and make a good combo.

[–]Republic_of_Ash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think 'peacock'. This is how it works.

[–]Eslime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A simple clean white shirt goes a long way.

[–]hazaraMoghul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I look Brazilian, out of 50 shades of grey, any of them looks awesome on me. White a big no no. My dark skin and glowing white. The contrast is huge.

Also black, just makes me look flat as in overall.

[–]cenie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, I wear black 95% of the time.

[–]lol_throwaway303 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course it makes big difference. Nothing wrong with dark clothes but save that for music venues for shows, not bars. Rocking a bright colored or printed button down shows confidence and makes you stand out among the rest.

[–]Thunderfin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tight wight shirt, jean or leather jacket, and jeans. That's all you need.

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points  (2 children)

One guy used to tell me that I rocked the black T-shirt with jeans pretty well. I like to wear a more colorful button-down or jacket over whatever black, grey, white, or blue shirt I'm wearing.

Edit: Spelling

[–]Wrath_of_Trump[S] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

That may actually be true about it looking good, but I think there is a bias in that people who know you already will not feel apprehensive about a dark color when it's worn by a familiar person, where as a stranger, in a usually-dimly-lit bar or street at night, might have an instinct to be more cautious, which plays out in being approached less or being at a slight disadvantage.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good point.

[–]Peter_B_Long -1 points0 points  (1 child)

I mean, not really. I was a metalhead in high school and I kept the dark colors through my adulthood. I pretty much only wear black, grays, & blues.

I have however began to add "touches of pop" for example: I started wearing a pinky ring, I grew my facial hair out, and I'm planning on buying some all white sneakers.

That's just my style. I'm brown skinned so I personally don't think I look good on bright colors.

[–]dongpal -1 points0 points  (0 children)

after first long LTR, if she is any kind of fashionable, will drag you down to colors in a positive way.

people tend to go for safe clothes, "you cant go wrong with black or dark clothes", just like most women wear it. but if you have any kind of style you use colors mostly.
