PARENTINGI'm Baaaaaaaack! (self.RedPillWomen)

submitted by [deleted]

Hello RPW! I have been away for a whole week, but I have a good excuse! As some of you have heard, I gave birth to my son last Friday. What an unbelievable experience! He was 3 weeks early so I was very surprised when my water broke Wednesday night. My husband and I planned a home birth with midwives present so all we had to do was sit back and wait.

30 hours later, my son was born, 7 pounds 4 ounces, 19 3/4". My husband was a champion birthing coach. Unexpectedly, I had a postpartum hemorrhage and was transported to the hospital a half hour after giving birth. I was transported out of my home while my in-laws watched. I left my husband standing in the kitchen, holding our new son in a bath towel. I didn't realize at the time how serious my condition was, but all told, I lost almost 3 liters of blood (that's half of my total blood volume). Bleeding to death was a very real possibility.

I was out of it for about 12 hours, I had emergency surgery, and was transported to a better hospital. My husband scheduled our son's pediatric visit, managed to pack for an overnight stay for the three of us and made medical decisions for me while I was out of it.

2 years ago, let me tell you, the thought of all this resting on his shoulders would have made him and I very stressed out. RPW and practicing it's theories have transformed my husband and I. Of course, there was nothing for him to do but step up, and nothing for me to do but relinquish control, but I feel that the last few years of my RPW journey have prepared both of us for this emergency situation.

At any rate, we are all back home and doing fine, a baby is always a treasure to have in the home! I look forward to being a more active member again after my short hiatus. I have missed our community dearly.

~ Sadie

You can find a FR in anything if you look closely enough 😂

I'm glad that everything went okay, and I must say that I am pleasantly surprised that you came back so soon--especially given the medical scare! We missed your input here and are glad to have you back :)

Congratulations Sadie! May your recovery be quick and thorough.

Great FR, it must have helped so much to have trust that your Husband is a competent Captain.

It was a huge relief, for sure. Just another situation to make me fully appreciate the RP way.

I am going to echo Rproller, I am also surprised to see you come back so soon. Especially with a new bundle of baby only a couple days old. Never the less, glad to see you back and in good condition.

Now your new phase of RPW begins. Learning how to be a good wife and mother. Good luck!

Thank you! It's easy enough to read through the sub while I'm pumping, lol.

Thank you!

Congratulations Sadie!!! We all missed you. I'm so glad you and the baby are doing well! So.. you had a natural birth??

[–]Mentathiel 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Wow, 30h! That must've been exhausting! Was it all active labor?

I'm very happy that you're so happy about your son and recovering quickly from both labor and postpartum hemorrhage! I wish you swift recovery filled with your sons loveliness!

Hang in there during the following months.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

It was only about 3 hours active labor. Truthfully, I loved every second and yesterday I kept thinking about what a special time it was and I was sad it was already over. I'm sure there are many women who will hate me for saying that because they had the opposite experience, but I will look back on it fondly.

My mom always says the same thing! She claims part of the negative response is that we're scaring each other with labor stories and that it's partially placebo. I wonder if she's right.

Unfortunately, I likely won't be able to give birth naturally because my heard wouldn't be able to stand it (my cardiologist warned me years ago, but never realized I'd be kinda sad about that in case I have kids...) so I'll never know. :(

I had an unplanned home birth with my second (a VBAC no less). We were taken to the local hospital after I had the placenta (0/10 would recommend that hospital).

How did you handle being away from baby for so long? I would have freaked!

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was out of it and didn't realize, truthfully. I had surgery around 4:30-5, they let my husband in to see me around 7 and at 9 they transported me to the second hospital. When I was in triage my husband and the baby sat with me. When my husband took him to the pediatrician, I was under a second round of general anesthesia and finally around 3 or 4 we were all settled. I was out of it for a while. Now I can't imagine being away from him!! It's hard to let other people hold him for too long.

Yes a whirlwind! I'm so glad to be home now. Things have been running very smoothly since then, I've had no further complications.
