I've been reading TRP for about 5 months now and i have seen the difference in how people treat me and approach me ever since.

I recently took up a part time job as a waiter to earn gas money for school. In hindsight that was a bad idea, i felt there was more money to be made, but that's another post for another sub, . Anyways i learned from my co-workers that my boss, the owner, was a complete dick to anyone who screwed up the slightest thing. Having worked a couple jobs with ass-hole bosses my typical (beta) reaction to them was to just agree and take the abuse. But last week i messed up an order and my boss started going off on me. Instead of going into beta mode and telling him that i was sorry and it won't happen again, I waited until he was done and told him how it was. I explained to him that i get scheduled 2 days a week and after only working for three weeks I've barley had time to learn everything and that I'm going to make mistakes. Basically I let him know that he was being an irrational prick without saying those words exactly. After i finished i walked away and nothing was said about it afterwards. Today HE messed by making an order wrong after i told him what the customer wanted. One of the girls i was working with basically told me that he was pissed about it and to be ready for it. I walked up to the window to talk to him and even though he still blamed it on me, he didn't go off. He told me to be more clear next time and left it at that. Although that still irritated me that he didn't take responsibility i feel that is a step up from what he usually does. He respected me as a man and took partial responsibility for what went wrong. If I hadn't discovered TRP he would have went off on me today and i would have just taken it like a little bitch. But instead i held frame and stood my ground. Thank you RP and all its contributors, you have turned me from a boy into a man.

First of all you don't DESERVE respect.

Secondly, you are the prick, you are a low level disposable tool, you either do your job and make the company money or you can pack your bags and bitch somewhere else. You don't matter as a person and you have some balls to expect a manager to be accomodating because you don't have your life in order.

Thirdly, if you don't have your life put together it's your fault, it's not your bosses job to be comforting, understanding or accommodating. Just because we live in a world that has the bar low enough that even a retard does a satisfactory job, does not mean that you should strive to barely crawl under it.

Fourthly your boss is a insecure prick for putting up with your mouthing, it isn't respect. You will get away with this attitude a lot because there are a lot of them out there, but speaking out of line is not productive and does not make you a better person. And it definetly doesn't earn you respect, it only scares away people that are scared of confruntation.

Well, you're right there. Respect is earned, as OP showed but maybe didn't realise.

Secondly, you are the prick, you are a low level disposable tool, you either do your job and make the company money or you can pack your bags and bitch somewhere else. You don't matter as a person and you have some balls to expect a manager to be accomodating because you don't have your life in order.

Holy shit, please tell me this is a troll. He was doing his job; he's new and a part-time worker so probably has under 40 hours to his hospitality career. Standing up for yourself and not letting someone higher up chew you out over a mistake is not the same as bitching, that's treating yourself with some god damn dignity. And how making a mistake on a job is equal to not having your life in order I just don't even know. You must be on some good drugs.

Thirdly, if you don't have your life put together it's your fault, it's not your bosses job to be comforting, understanding or accommodating. Just because we live in a world that has the bar low enough that even a retard does a satisfactory job, does not mean that you should strive to barely crawl under it.

This just has troll written all over it. Holy shit. Again please point out the part where OP says he doesn't have his life together? His boss should have the experience to know that new staff will make mistakes BECAUSE THEY ARE NEW. YOU LEARN BY MAKING MISTAKES, NOT BY RECEIVING A RIMJOB FROM SENIOR MANAGEMENT.

Speaking out of line is not productive and does not make someone a better person, correct. So why is the boss doing it in the first place? He is the aggressor, not OP. Saying the boss is an insecure prick for putting up with his "mouthing" is laughable, maybe the boss realised that not everyone in the restaurant has upwards of thirty years industry experience like he does and he empathised with OP after he laid out the logistics of how much time he gets to learn the ropes.

All that purple pill is going to your head, boy. Maybe you need to get off the forums and go experience life. No-one has to take shit from anybody.

Not a troll a employer, a person that thinks in terms of bottom lines not feelings.

He complained that after 3 weeks a screw up is reasonable.

Being a part time job doesn't make it any less important. You either are capable of doing it or you can't.

I did not say the boss is reasonable, I said that mouthing back and coming up with excuses isn't reasonable.

He argued that the reason he wasn't able to do his job is because in 3 weeks he only came in 6 times, you take a fucking afternoon, get a colegue some beers and ask him to tell you all the details. That is having your life put toghether. Part time jobs aren't payed fun time with a grumpy supervisor.

We are not in the process of arguing what other people SHOULD DO(that is the point of being red, you don't have idealised standards for others), it's about what you NEED TO DO. You get a new job you motherfucking learn it on your own time. When it comes to money, unless you are docked for your "learning mistakes" you don't get to have free passes, you cost the business time, money and client satisfaction.

So why is the boss doing it in the first place?

If I was talking to the boss, i'd be critical of him. I am not. Just because his boss is not a reason for OP to be a shitty employee.

No, he is a insecure prick because he yells and puts up with arguing. I am certain that behind his position she is weak.

If you make mistakes the least you can do is take some shit, because the company and the clients take more than just a bruised ego.

If the boss wasn't an insecure prick, he wouldn't have yelled OR put up with op mouthing off.

Since the boss IS an insecure prick, he did both.

It would have been unreasonable to expect the boss to act like an insecure prick in one instance and not the other, op was actually reasonable.

It's just a shitty part-time job, the definition of entry level. If you want your employees to be good at their job, then you either teach them, or pay more for their experience (like the places that cover cerimonies do, in the case of waiters).

That is my point. As a red pillers you should control your emotions and reaction and not be reactive

Bosses, like all people have their own shit going on. HAving expectations to undestand you or even acomodate you is childish and delusional.

Own your life and don't just be a passenger in it, complaining about the poor service.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
