Is anyone else getting sick of a lot of traditionally feminine hobbies getting saturated with "let's be edgy and make a cross stitch of a vagina?" Or cut out cookies of penises? Ok, I get it, you're trying to be funny and quirky, but you're trying too hard and looking like an idiot.

I get tired of the oversexualization of, well, everything. Yeah, it's no longer the 1920s where talking about anything related to sex is taboo, but can I please go about my life without being bombarded with sexually explicit images, all in the name of being edgy and progressive?

That's ties in to my biggest complaint with the LGBT crowd - it seems like every march, event, protest, whatever, involves people running around naked, wearing genital paraphaneilia, and demands that I acknowledge their bedroom life. Why can't they, or anyone, heterosexual too, just keep it to themselves!

I keep my sex life very private - I don't talk about it with friends, mom, sister, anyone! And I think that's the way it should be. /rantover

AMEN! It seems like in the US (I've had completely different experience when living in Europe), everyone treats sex and love like you're still in high school. It's all so superficial and vulgar. In the past few years, its seemed to be getting really bad and hypersexualized. Almost like a caricature. HAHAH! LOOK AT ME! I"M AT A PROTEST OR JUST HANGING OUT WITH MY FRIENDS TAKING SELFIES! DILDOS! PENISES! HAHAHA!

It's crazy comparing interviews with ladies like Dita VonTeese or Audrey Tuatou on sex and love with interviews by Lena Dunam or Amy Schumer. It's astonishing and sad. It's as if they don't know how to be adults.

Unfortunately, I think it will only get worse, because its such a good way to get people's attention, and let's be honest, a large amount of people are attention whores these days.

Sadly Americans have a confused view of sexuality. We apparently think vulgarity will cure our puritan repression. Being vulgar is just a sign of an immature attitude toward sex, still secretly thinking it's about cooties and yucky, so overcompensating. Could these same women be sensual and intriguing while even keeping a straight face? They would feel silly. Sexuality is to be respected and channeled properly.

KEEP YOUR LAWS OUT OF OUR BEDROOMS!!! But watch our parade where we parade around with strap ons and such toys waving around

It's the same mindset as, "keep government out of our bedrooms.....but pay for our birth control and abortions." Ugh.

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

To be fair, it's probably not the parading gay people getting the birth control and abortions ;-)

[–]melindamaga2 points3 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

Totally agree, and it's even worse for boys/men. Do they have to be bombarded with sexy images on EVERYTHING all the time making them get boners and feel uncomfortable? I wonder what life was like for boys back before sex was shoved in their face 24/7.

My belief is that feminists are so unfeminine that they have to scream about vaginas all the time otherwise everyone would forget that they even have them.

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (1 child) | Copy Link

Like - being feminine is totally un-cool unless you knit a pussy hat. And I just want to scream SEE TRADITIONAL FEMININE HOBBIES ARE FUN YOU CRAZIES!!!

I love sharing my hobbies and am excited when people get interested and want to learn. I'm just hoping this is just a fad that passes by with time...like tribal tattoos or putting mustaches on everything.

[–]StingrayVC4 points5 points  (3 children) | Copy Link

It's like they have to make an excuse for enjoying that hobby. If they don't make it edgy, they won't be accepted because enjoying it for what it is is super plus bad.

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

Which is pretty funny, because the same people are always like, "I don't care if people judge me for not shaving my legs/being too outspoken/yadda yadda yadda", but oooooh my, liking to do something that the majority of people consider normal is terrifying and you need to put up a shield.

It's a lot more work to get attention for the quality of work than it is being obnoxious.

I think you mean double plus ungood

[–]StingrayVC3 points4 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

Eh, probably. Don't care. They both work. ;)

What grates on me about the whole vulgar cross stitch thing is that people make an industry out of it, when you could create those patterns for free yourself. All most of the slogan ones are are letters and a few very basic flowers. You don't need to buy a book of vulgar patterns, just download a free alphabet and write whatever you want.

It's annoying because I follow a lot of cross stitch feeds on instagram and the vulgar ones come up time and time again because they are 'edgy' I assume, when there is really very little talent involved in creating them as they are highly basic techincally speaking. I want to see talent and inspiring things, not basic things.

I find the cut out cookies of penises (and penis cakes and penis lollipops) SO TIRESOME, even at bachelorette parties. It's like you said below, it's like you're still in high school.

I've been married nine months, and I finally got my house to the level of organization that I can finally unpack the one wedding gift I was most excited to receive - a toaster oven! Any of you ladies have/love one and want to share some recipes or tips?

My favorite cooking blog, The Kitchn, had a whole series on single serving desserts. My husband and I don't have much self control in the face of sweets, so we've most cut them out. But maybe, with this toaster oven + recipe combo, we can start having little treats again! Just in time for Valentine's Day! http://www.thekitchn.com/how-to-bake-a-brownie-for-one-232690

I use my toaster oven almost everyday. If you don't have ones that will fit already, pick up some small pans and trays that will fit in it. I use my loaf pan, small baking tray, and 9x9 weekly. They also make 6in cast iron pans which are great for making all sorts of stuff like roasted veggies.

I freeze extra cookie dough and will bake cookies 6 at a time instead of making big batches. I also love to use it for broiling, because it seems much easier to control than using the big oven.

Question:

If my husband is the Captain, but my son is now the First Mate . What does that make me?? ;)

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
