I am HOOKED with reality TV shows like Real Housewives, 16 And Pregnant, Teen Mum and Pawn Stars. In between though I keep seeing ads about The Bachelor show. It just makes me shudder? You see all these grown women basically lowering themselves and being a plate for this one guy, who we can all see is usually a f*ckboy who is so low quality. Acting all slutty, desperate and though sometimes they are quite successful with career, when it comes to emotional common sense it's just 0%. I get it's dramatised but still...shudder!

TLDR; I'm ranting about a reality TV show apparently about a relationship with slutty girls and a low quality guy. Haha.

What's the prize of the show besides getting the bachelor?? If it's money, can explain why the girls are competing for to hard - not for the dude but for the moneyz :p

But yeah, I think the same about those reality shows like Loft story. Put a bunch of slutty chicks with low quality men and make them screw each other and make drama for money.

"Good luck finding a quality man after displaying that behavior on national TV, girl. Enjoy your money alone."

Haha that's the funny part, the prize is the bachelor proposing to you! Like you would even want just a pretty but useless face proposing as a prize.

They all just get paid a normal wage for every day they're in the game, actually. Like I'm just shocked by all the 'saucy, liberating, brave' things they do to just get his attention, which are basically just slutty things.

There's no money to enjoy, just a crap guy, haha!

That's pretty sad to be honest.

Yep. ^

They don't get paid to be on the show (only the bachelor/bachelorette) but if they are popular they can make a lot through social media ads (selling tea on instagram basically) or get paid to go on Bachelor in Paradise

Does anyone else watch Seven Year Switch? Asking for a friend...slash I'm obsessed with it.

I haven't but I'll check it out, I'm on the hunt for more shows

It's a delightful train wreck. Married at First Sight is good too, like bad good.

[–]ThatStepfordGalEarly 20s, LTR[S] 0 points1 point  (2 children) | Copy Link

Oh I watched that! I actually was intrigued by the matchmaking methods myself.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child) | Copy Link

Me too! I wish they revealed more about the questions they ask the potentials. It seems like a lot of the bad matches come down to people thinking they want something they don't actually want, or failing to outline a major requirement.

So true! Or women just being neurotic and crazy b*tches! I've seen some real crazies in there.

We just finished season 1 and have season 2 set up to DVR! I felt so bad for Eric on season 1 when they would replay over and over Danielle saying Eric needs to step it up, not only as a man but as a husband. Ouch. We love trashy reality tv...we may or may not have seen every season of Marriage Bootcamp thus far...haha.

I'd finally gotten myself out of the bachelor loop. But then I heard that this is the trashiest season ever and I got sucked right back in :/

[–]nukessolveprblms1 point2 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

It's so trashy - can't look away! I watch it, it's a guilty pleasure, but only catch up on my lunch break so I keep it separate from my relationship and time with hubs. He knows though and always teases me when a commercial is on -.-

Try watching Younger.

It is about a divorcing 40ish yo mom who pretends to be 26 in Manhattan.

She scores a younger boyfriend who was okay with letting her cheat because she has never had a slut phase, and her alpha boss at work is overlooking all the younger women and chasing her.

The blurb had already turned me off. It's a classic story of old women trying to feel young. Eek!

[–]NittanyLioness8432, Engaged/LTR 3yrs0 points1 point  (3 children) | Copy Link

It's my guilty pleasure, along with Hoarders.

[–]ThatStepfordGalEarly 20s, LTR[S] 0 points1 point  (2 children) | Copy Link

Hoarders is so good though!

And Catfish

Ooh let me check it out!

Reality TV is a lot like professional wrestling.

"Marks" on some level believe the scenario depicted is true (or somewhat true), and it's aspirational for them.

"Smart Marks" watch the show for a sort of schedenfruede, its pornographic entertainment. Part of the joy is being "better" than the show itself.

Part of the reason you like these shows is because drawing a comparison between yourself and the slutty girls makes you feel good.

I'm not judging. I watch Steve Wilkos and Maury on my days off, which is much worse.

[–]lackadaisicalily0 points1 point  (3 children) | Copy Link

I watch Girls and Sex and the City.

[–]ThatStepfordGalEarly 20s, LTR[S] 1 point2 points  (2 children) | Copy Link

Oh but Sex and the City is a classic. The RPW I am, my favorite is Charlotte.

[–]lackadaisicalily1 point2 points  (1 child) | Copy Link

Yes! Charlotte for me too! Also Samantha because she is hilarious.

[–]ThatStepfordGalEarly 20s, LTR[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

I like the characters but I relate to Charlotte the best :)
