Happy May RPW!!!!!

April was monumental for this subreddit - we migrated to this new space, reached the 500 subscriber mark, and we are so close to 1,000! The moderation team is overjoyed at how this community is developing, thank you so much for contributing both content and comments. There is so much on the sub, be sure to look through older posts and keep the conversation going! And check out the Essential Posts section of the wiki for the best OC to date :)

Here’s what we have in store this month:

  • Tuesday May 3rd: Contest Announcement - This month we will be awarding prizes for categories such as Best Original Content, Best Non Original Content, Best Comment, or Best Field Report. Full details will be up on the sub tomorrow :)

  • Wednesday May 4th: Mother’s Day Megathread - Discuss anything and everything related to Mother's Day!

  • Saturday May 14th: Shit Post Saturday - Check out the first and second and get excited about our third!

  • Monday May 16th: Brag about your SO - Thanks /u/suzanne_by_the_river for suggesting this in last month's subreddit events announcement post!

  • Saturday May 21th: Simple Questions - Ask any question that doesn’t require its own post. Subreddit rules still apply but the range of acceptable subjects is wider.

  • Monday May 23rd: Hobbies, Crafts, and Recipes Megathread - Share photos and updates of whatever you’ve made - projects, meals, cocktails, etc.

  • Saturday May 25th: Book Discussion - We'll discuss, and analyse an interesting book. Suggest one in the comments, it doesn't have to be about relationships!

  • Monday May 30th: Contest Winners Announced

There will also be a celebration thread and an opportunity for introductions and general chit chat when we've reached 1,000 subscribers so keep an eye out for that!

Please use the comment section to suggest books, ask questions, give feedback, and provide ideas for next month <3

I'd like to discuss Fascinating Womanhood, only because I've only been starting reading it! Two birds with one stone yay.

I adore this book!

[–]sugarrush1994 2 points3 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

I second fascinating womanhood! :) I love this book and I need to read it again!

[–]margerym 2 points3 points  (4 children) | Copy Link

Awesome! Thanks for putting this together.

The obvious book rec is The Surrendered Wife but I have recently been reading Jennifer Scott's books and they are so good! Polish Your Poise, At Home with Madame Chic, and Lessons from Madame Chic.

Oh I follow her YouTube channel but haven't really bought any of her books. What would be the one you like the most?

[–]margerym 1 point2 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

I LOVE her YT! The one I have found of most value is At Home with Madame Chic

Thanks for my new obsession, ladies! I'm binge watching her videos now.

General Announcement:

When voting for a book suggestion, if the comment includes more than one title, please respond to the original user and state what book you are voting for.

I noticed this was a problem the last time around, people generally list multiple options, so people will upvote - but there's no way to tell which title they are voting for.

Thanks everyone!

Lol, I was thinking about this just yesterday. It would definitely have to be postponed, I believe.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy Link

Yes, for now it's being postponed, as well as the competition that /u/Camille11325 mentioned. We're trying to hash out exactly how the competition will work without being too complicated, and the book discussion will be happening sometime in the future as well.

Everyone seems pretty busy right now, but we will keep everyone posted as things develop! :0)

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy Link

Scratch that, the competition is still a 'go' and we will be posting about that later this month, with stuff for people to vote on.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy Link

Hey there, no, we haven't picked a book, and this will be delayed for now - as soon as we get a few things sorted out though - we will be sure to let everyone know.

yay so many events!

I feel so social! It's like the sorority I never rushed for!

This month we will be awarding prizes for categories such as Best Original Content, Best Non Original Content, Best Comment, or Best Field Report. Full details will be up on the sub tomorrow :)

I am so excited about this, the original content being shared here has been wonderful so far. Sometimes I feel a little annoying, because I never pass up an opportunity to encourage someone to post a new thread haha! :0)

Saturday May 25th: Book Discussion - We'll discuss, and analyse an RPW relevant book. Suggest one in the comments!

  • The Five People You Meet In Heaven

  • Eat, Pray, Love (there are some good parts, and some 'please just shut up' moments as well haha)

  • The Total Woman (I'm going to read this at some point - Occam bought me a copy)

So Excited for all these events! :0)

The Total Woman

No kindle edition? :(

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy Link

Yeah it's a book from the 70's and all the mainstream reviews talk about how horrible it is. Oddly enough, the things they say that make it 'bad' are pretty much why I wanted to get a copy.

Haha, you're not dumb at all. I don't think a book has to be strictly RP relevant. There were so many solid ideas and concepts, some really beautiful stories that provoke reflection and introspection.

I think a good student can learn from just about anything (whether it's an example of what to avoid, a way to change how to go about considering a topic, or just learning something new). It's a very touching book, with some amazing writing.

Personally, I want to read things that will speak to me on an intellectual and emotional level. :0)

I just heard about Tied Up In Knots tonight - I have not read it yet, but it seems like a really solid read that sheds a lot of light on what feminism has done to women.

Thanks for sharing! I just put it on hold at library. I look forward to reading it.
