skeletal maxillary advancement is possible in adults http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21211241

There are hundred of studies showing it works on children, but only a few for adults. Here are the most significant ones I found:

TL;DR - Mewing is a proper oral posture technique that corrects your resting tongue position and betters your appearance

It took me way too long to search for an article that actually says what mewing actually is, and I had to read a half dozen paragraphs of filler until I got to the big, exciting reveal. Turns out my tongue posture is already correct because I'm not a slack-jawed mouth-breather. I feel sorry for the rest of you, though.

So what is the good posture ? I can’t seem to find a trustable article.

Lips together, teeth together/clenched and tongue pressed against/resting on the roof of the mouth

[–]lm7070 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy Link

don't clench your teeth

I used to believe Mewing, but then comes the problem... it might push your maxilla, but what about your lower jaw? How would tongue posture expand the lower jaw? In fact I doubt it does. So I think Mew is definitely right about forces being able to mold bones over time, but I think he's wrong about how to go about it. It has less to do with tongue pressure and posture and more to do with chewing hard tough shit, specifically fibrous plant matter.

mewing works. My jaw is much wider and the jaw angles in my profile jut out and are very strong. It went from sloppy and weak to Ariana Grande after 3 years of mewing. You have nothing to lose so I suggest to try it. Best part-it's free!

Did you notice any change in your zygos? Either laterally or forward?

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points  (5 children) | Copy Link

For sure! I might post pics of my before and after on this sub if anyone is interested.

[–]5xdata5 points6 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

"Oral posture" which of those studies in adults focus on oral posture? None, yes.

[–]crackheadkyle0 points1 point  (4 children) | Copy Link

Mewing is a complete myth, the bone structure of your skull is entirely genetic. Just like your skeletal frame or muscle attachments. If all of your ancestors had weak jaws, you will be born with a weak jaw. Just like some people have great muscle attachments for bodybuilding, some people have great jaws for biting. It’s genetic.

nah it's like how braces can fix crooked teeth

[–]Secreteus0 points1 point  (2 children) | Copy Link

Everyone from my family have very well developed face except me and my sister (which still has very attractive face due to early orthodontic treatment which I didn't get). I was also exposed to main environmental causes of such problems (bottle feeding to late age, soft food) and my face is very ugly, it seems environment plays very huge factor in how face looks.

[–]crackheadkyle0 points1 point  (1 child) | Copy Link

No it doesn’t, it’s entirely genetic.

[–]Secreteus0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy Link

So how would you explain John Mew's results in children orthodontic treatment? https://johnmeworthotropics.co.uk/

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
