Women have higher minimum mate selection standards across most dimensions. Women's standards increase with their self-perceived mate value while men’s standards don’t (Regan 1998) (doi.org)

Most notably, standards for looks in short-term mating are not significantly different for men and women. For long-term mating women have significantly lower preference for looks, but it's not a large difference and there is no proof that this isn't just virtue signalling.

You mean the emphasis on looks is the same for both sexes, but women obviously are more picky in terms of the minimum level of looks they require for a short-term relationship, correct?

I was referring to Table 1 and the paragraph that discusses in which there is no significant difference for short-term but only for long-term dating. I have not checked their methodology, so not sure how reliable that actually is. I do think women are actually a bit more picky about looks.

Oh okay. I just quickly skimmed the study, it does indeed show women as being only slightly more picky then men in looks for short-term mating.
It's all self report though, which immediately makes me doubt the reliabilty of the study. The authors themselves mentioned this as a limitation.
There's also this to consider:
The participants considered themselves relatively desirable as potential mates: Across characteristics, men and women perceived themselves as more desirable than over 60% of their peers. A sample with a wider range of perceived mate value might produce different results.
So the sample supposedly consisted of a somewhat 'elite' group too, probably not too many unattractive men included in the sample.

It's great that this research was made by a woman.
