I think also a big part of it is that single women know in the back of their heads that they could still get someone if they lower their standards enough. Celibacy for women is a choice based on current quality of her pursuers.

On the other hand, men are often celibate because no woman wants them, it's a failure to find love from anyone. That's a lot more brutal than choosing to be celibate.

Yet another possible factor is that many celibate women are only so temporarily, and don't feel as if their doomed to be celibate. Whereas many celibate men have been celibate for decades and might even be lifelong virgins.
