Mate guarding is a catch 22. Women are flirty with other men because they don't find you as attractive. At the same time mate guarding is seen as a sign of weakness and low self confidence which is also seen as unattractive.

Key word is 'percieved' - men will fuck any woman regardless of their relative attractiveness, whereas women will only punch up. This could make many women feel like they can do much better despite being the less attractive one in the relationship.

AFAIK this is rare evidence of hypergamy regarding looks. In terms of messaging patterns in online dating both sexes aim higher to roughly the same degree, but who they then mate with may be a different matter with women also more rarely dating down in looks.

I saw this at work this morning when a significantly less attractive foreign female was clinging to her chadly boyfriend like a crack addict. Fascinating to observe.

As others have said, mate guarding is a waste of time and makes you look like a beta. If she's really into you, she's not going to leave. If she's not into you, it's better for your sake that she does leave.
