probably because the small jaw bearded face is the only face with good proportions in the study. the other 3 look ridiculous

Can confirm, beards do wonders. My jaw is somewhere between LTM-STM and when I had full beard foids suddenly started to notice me and compliment me on my looks like wtf? One foid even acted so strange to ask me if I wanted some water, then escorted me to get water. I did not say anything during this interaction, only thought what the hell is it she wants, lol. Bugs me to this day

If the beard is not a soy one and you practice some minimal maintenance then it's worth it, if not for the looks at least as a way to hide your face.

How do I accurately determine where I fit on that jawline spectrum? I can't really determine where I fit.

why are you here then

Not sure what to make of this. The difference in means were 5-10 pts on a 100 pt attractiveness scale, so there's that: https://i.imgur.com/3v3sZUw.png

This author -- Barnaby J.W. Dixson -- has a fairly interesting publication history, with ~10 different papers on the sexual and social value of beards, all published within the last 5 years. Amusingly enough, one can only guess why: https://psychology.uq.edu.au/profile/2647/barnaby-dixson

Also, perhaps of some interest, he was interviewed by an obscure podcast a few years ago to discuss the science of beards: http://psychologyofattractivenesspodcast.blogspot.com/2013/05/pap-barnaby-dixson-extended-interview.html

Not sure what to make of this.

The first photo was possibly rated as worse because it was interpreted as large beard by the raters (not as a large chin), but beard preferences are subject to temporary fashion. Large beards currently have connotations of hillbillies, barbarity, terrorists, boring clerics etc.

[–]ayejit[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

Reasonable hypothesis. One of his other beard studies does support this interpretation, with light and heavy stubble being rated as more attractive than either full beards or clean-shaven faces:

Someone should tell him that as soon as height is concerned, all those findings about beard impact on attractiveness will go to shit, particularly in female ratings

[–]48151_623426 points7 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

Pretty bad study. The "beard low" is longer and more unkempt than what most people would consider attractive. They should have used a third category: "beard well-groomed" and measured that. I bet it would be the strongest by far.

Hahaha he's still clinging to the beard thing of 2015.

[–]48151_623426 points7 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

Beards weren't invented in 2015. They have grown naturally on most men's faces since the beginning of human existence.

thanks for the picture

My jaw is ok but my beard grows like that of a 15 year old. only mexican mustache and some chin hair

[–]Colin_Copernick0 points1 point  (2 children) | Copy Link

Same for me. I’m scared to try minoxidil on my face because of hair loss

[–]48151_623421 point2 points  (1 child) | Copy Link

Minoxidil does not cause hair loss.

Old thread, but it causes extreme collagen depletion and your skin will look 10-20 years older while you're on it. But it goes back to normal after 3-4 days off being off it.
