Also, when I am hungry or tired I just dont feel like doing anything difficult intellectually(working on my project eg) or physically (going to gym eg)?

Yes. So eat well and sleep well. It should be high on your priority list.

[–][deleted] 16 points17 points  (15 children) | Copy Link

Since my childhood my mom told me sleep is importtant only for lazy people, and food is important only for fat people. Its taking time to understand the importance of food and sleep

[–]O---40 points41 points  (2 children) | Copy Link

Pretty hardcore. I like your mom already.

The key difference is intention. Do you eat because you like stuffing yourself or do you eat for the sake of gains? Do you sleep because you like to do jack shit or because you get ready for another day of battle?

[–]VigilantSmartbomb6 points7 points  (1 child) | Copy Link

I should look more at my days as battles lol

Your mom is wrong, sleep is beyond vital to having a full life. Give your self 8+ hours every night non negotiable and be amazed at how much easier life is. And if you are following trp way then lifting is a #1 priority and guess what? No sleep no gains!

Ahhh the wonders of oriental culture

[–]D4rkr4in1 point2 points  (5 children) | Copy Link

disagree, my asian mom always told me to sleep 8 hours and fed me very well. I don't know if it's because I have been fortunate to have the luxury of being able to sleep in and eat well, but I wouldn't pin this on a cultural thing.

[–]Velebit1 point2 points  (4 children) | Copy Link

'Not true that woman are shorter, I know a tall one'

Also, what is your wider familial background, by location and worldview? As in 'my mothers side came here in 1920s, my dads side are irish farmers'

[–]D4rkr4in0 points1 point  (3 children) | Copy Link

both parents grew up poor in Asia, immigrated to the US in the early 90s, and live comfortably in the US. Very standard first generation American who still have "the wonders of oriental culture". The fact you call it oriental makes me suspect you aren't asian yourself.

[–]Velebit0 points1 point  (2 children) | Copy Link

Asian is not one thing for obvious reasons. The outlook of Omani, Eskimo, Japanese, Indians and Burmese will not be the same as well as the fact that people eager to leave are those who are likely to disagree with tradition.

[–]D4rkr4in-2 points-1 points  (1 child) | Copy Link

did you really just group people from Oman and "Eskimos" (which is a derogatory term) as asian?

for cultures that are actually considered asian, I'd like to know which one says sleep is for the lazy and food is for the fat

Derogatory? What kind of a pussy are you?

You need to get redpilled on equality being a lie. Natural little niceguy. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL82838WY3mTlJws0sfGLCr7Snrb2qLWGT

Food and sleep are only important to people or who want to take care of their body and mind.

[–]thechaosz0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy Link

Oh boy was she wrong.

There is plenty of science on this.

[–]benmarvin0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy Link

There's also a big difference between going to bed at a decent hour to wake up at 5am fully refreshed and staying up till past midnight, getting the same number of hours but shittier sleep then getting up mid morning.

[–]menial_optimist0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy Link

Totally. When I haven't slept well, I don't even enjoy the simple pleasures throughout the day. It's all just a miserable slog until I go to sleep again.

[–]Houston2NYC-2 points-1 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

It’s not that easy dumbass, some of us have demanding jobs or other obligations that impede this.

[–]GetMeLaidAlot17 points18 points  (1 child) | Copy Link

It's been researched and lack of sleep has been correlated in some ways to a loss of willpower. Linked below is one study but if you were to google " effects of lack of sleep on willpower", you would find a multitude of different articles and research studies more-or-less saying the same thing. In short, get your sleep.

Eat better energy foods daily.

An overdose of pasta can throw me off for two days.

[–]iwviw0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy Link

I actually perform better overall without the rollercoaster ride of simple carbs and caffeine.

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

Getting enough (8hrs) sleep was a game changer for me. I could suddenly concentrate, I enjoyed life more and was more productive.

Hungry is just a feeling that'll go. Try not to confuse it with being thirsty.

[–]AquinasAurelius 1 points [recovered]  (3 children) | Copy Link

I’m the opposite, I’m a lot more disciplined and productive when I haven’t slept at all, and eating makes me tired and drugged feeling

[–]Plasticannihilation2 points3 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

Pork sword bacon.

[–]Standgrounding1 point2 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

Yeah heavy foods tend to do that

[–]DominatePressure1 point2 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

Digesting require and focus a lot of energy from your body, maybe you are eating too much for one meal

[–]mustard51 point2 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

I work an unusual schedule. I do two 16 hour shifts over the weekend, which gives me many days during the week for other pursuits. I enjoy the freedom of my week days, but I often see how during those long shifts over the weekend my cognition and decision making becomes degraded. I make a point of not listening to my internal chattering during this time, as it is invariably motivated by fatigue and stress. I wait for the days when I'm rested to think clearly and objectively.

When I'm tired I'm more susceptible to certain destructive behaviors. Awareness of this at least allows me to mitigate some of those behaviors.

[–]slamdunktiger861 point2 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

Sleep is so crucial. Everything falls apart from the lack of it.

You know what all mental health issues have in common? Extreme irregular sleep.

[–]frankgold0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy Link

Definitely. Willpower is a finite source, and hunger and sleep deprivation has negative effects on it.

[–]sebastianconcept0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy Link

Of course. What were you expecting to happen?

[–]indianajonesindiana0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy Link

of course. food and sleep are essential. Everything else is an after thought if those two needs are not being met.

[–]Senior EndorsedMattyAnon0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy Link

loss of sleep and food will decrease willpower, don't do it

[–]Poo_McClanahan0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy Link

Yes. Stop skipping sleep.

If I get short on sleep my sugar/carb cravings EXPLODE.

[–]Alpha271450 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy Link

try controlling what you eat and when. Try fasting and try eating at regular times of the day. Definitely do not over eat. Sleep is critical, no way around, 6 hours minimum

[–]masterpiece000 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy Link

"bro you might have ADHD bro, not feeling like doing work or project is ADD dude, try Adderall my broseph takes amphetamines and suddenly wants to work again"

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
