Could be a couple of things:

On light days that is not enough.

In fact, girls can be "on their period" and even putting your dick in will not show obvious blood. But after sex you will find a red condom and red around the base of your cock. It's not an on/off thing, the early and last days can be hit/miss with how much blood is around.

It's more an anecdotal thing for me. In media, TV shows, movies. I get the sense that American girls are more prudish when it comes to sex.
