  1. They dont waste time feeling sorry for themselves

Mentally strong people don't sit around feeling sorry about their circumstances or how others have treated them. Instead, they take responsibility for their role in life and understand that life isn't always easy or fair.

  1. They don't give away their power

They don't allow others to control them, and they don't give someone else power over them. They don't say things like, "my boss makes me feel bad," because they understand that they are in control of their own emotions and they have a choice in how they respond.

  1. They don't shy away from change

Mentally strong people don't try to avoid change. Instead, they welcome positive change and are willing to be flexible. They understand that change is inevitable and believe in their abilities to adapt.

  1. They don't waste energy on things they can't control

You won't hear a mentally strong person complaining over lost luggage or traffic jams. Instead, they focus on what they can control in their lies. They recognize that sometimes, the only thing they can control is their attitude.

  1. They don't worry about pleasing everyone

Mentally strong people recognize that they don't need to please everyone all the time. They're not afraid to say no or speak up when necessary. They strive to be kind and fair, but can handle other people being upset if they didn't make them happy.

  1. They don't fear taking calculated risks

They don't take reckless or foolish risks, but don't mind taking calculated risks. Mentally strong people spend time weighing the risks and benefits before making a big decision, and they're fully informed of the potential downsides before they take action.

  1. They don't dwell on the past

Mentally strong people don't waste time dwelling on the past and wishing things could be different. They acknowledge their past and can say what they've learned from it. However, they don't constantly relive bad experiences or fantasize about the glory days. Instead, they live for the present and plan for the future.

  1. They don't make the same mistakes over and over

Mentally strong people accept responsibility for their behavior and learn from their past mistakes. As a result, they don't keep repeating those mistakes over and over. Instead, they move on and make better decisions in the future.

  1. They don't resent other people's success

Mentally strong people can appreciate and celebrate other people's success in life. They don't grow jealous or feel cheated when others surpass them. Instead, they recognize that success comes with hard work, and they are willing to work hard for their own chance at success.

  1. They don't give up after the first failure

Mentally strong people don't view failure as a reason to give up. Instead, they use failure as an oppurtunity to grow and imporve. They are willing to keep trying until they get it right.

  1. They don't fear alone time

Mentally strong people can tolerate being alone and they don't fear silence. They aren't afraid to be alone with their thoughts and they can use downtime to be productive. They enjoy their own company and aren't dependent on others for companionship and entertainment all the time but instead can be happy alone.

  1. They don't feel the world owes them anything

Mentally strong people don't feel entitled to things in life. They weren't born with a mentality that others would take care of them or what the world must give them something. Instead, they look for opportunities based on their own merits.

  1. They don't expect immediate results

Whether they are working on improving their health or getting a new business of the ground, mentally strong people don't expect immediate results. Instead, they apply their skills and time to the best of their ability and understand that real change takes time.

You can interpret this any way you like, and basically replace "mentally strong" with "Red Pill Men" everytime.

EDIT: thank you u/Cerritos for the scource. http://www.lifehack.org/articles/communication/13-things-mentally-strong-people-dont.html I was given this in class and quickly typed it all on mobile as I thought it would contribute well to the RP community.

I must ascend though I hear your cares,

I must leave by a hundred stairs,

And being a stair appeals to none. -Friedrich Nietzsche

For believe me!—the secret to harvesting the greatest abundance and the greatest enjoyment from existence is this—living dangerously! Build your cities on the slopes of Vesuvius! Send your ships into uncharted seas! Live at war with your peers and yourselves! Be robbers and conquerors, so long as you cannot be rulers and possessors, you knowing ones!

There is an old Greek legend that king Midas for a long time hunted the wise Silenus, the companion of Dionysus, in the forests, without catching him. When Silenus finally fell into the king’s hands, the king asked what was the best thing of all for men, the very finest. The daemon remained silent, motionless and inflexible, until, compelled by the king, he finally broke out into shrill laughter and said these words, “Suffering creature, born for a day, child of accident and toil, why are you forcing me to say what would give you the greatest pleasure not to hear? The very best thing for you is totally unreachable: not to have been born, not to exist , to be nothing. The second best thing for you, however, is this — to die as soon as you can.

Now the Olympic magic mountain reveals itself and shows us its roots. The Greeks knew and felt the terror and horrors of existence: in order to be able to live at all, they must have placed in front of them the gleaming dream birth of the Olympians. That immense distrust of the titanic forces of nature, that vulture of the great friend of man, Prometheus, that fatal lot of wise Oedipus, that family curse on the House of Atreus, which compelled Orestes to kill his mother, in short, that entire philosophy of Greece was justified through the world of the Olympians.

In order to be able to live, the Greeks must have created these gods out of the deepest necessity. How else could a people so emotionally sensitive, so spontaneously desiring, so singularly capable of suffering, have been able to endure their existence, unless the same qualities, with a loftier glory flowing round them, manifested themselves in their gods.

In this way, the gods justify the lives of men, because they themselves live it — that is the only satisfactory theodicy! Existence under the bright sunshine of such gods is experienced as worth striving for in itself, and the essential pain of the Homeric men refers to separation from that sunlight.

The truth is hard. Let us acknowledge unprejudicedly how every higher civilization hitherto has ORIGINATED! Men with a still natural nature, barbarians in every terrible sense of the word, men of prey, still in possession of unbroken strength of will and desire for power, threw themselves upon weaker, more moral, more peaceful races (perhaps trading or cattle-rearing communities), or upon old mellow civilizations in which the final vital force was flickering out in brilliant fireworks of wit and depravity. At the commencement, the noble caste was always the barbarian caste: their superiority did not consist first of all in their physical, but in their psychical power—they were more COMPLETE men.

To refrain mutually from injury, from violence, from exploitation, and put one's will on a par with that of others: this may result in a certain rough sense in good conduct among individuals when the necessary conditions are given. As soon, however, as one wished to take this principle more generally, and if possible even as the FUNDAMENTAL PRINCIPLE OF SOCIETY, it would immediately disclose what it really is—namely, a Will to the DENIAL of life, a principle of dissolution and decay. Here one must think profoundly to the very basis and resist all sentimental weakness: life itself is ESSENTIALLY appropriation, injury, conquest of the strange and weak, suppression, severity, obtrusion of peculiar forms, incorporation, and at the least, putting it mildest, exploitation.

[–]ubercoolhipsterguy1 point2 points  (4 children) | Copy Link

The noble type of man regards HIMSELF as a determiner of values; he does not require to be approved of; he passes the judgment: "What is injurious to me is injurious in itself;" he knows that it is he himself only who confers honour on things; he is a CREATOR OF VALUES. He honours whatever he recognizes in himself: such morality equals self-glorification. In the foreground there is the feeling of plenitude, of power, which seeks to overflow, the happiness of high tension, the consciousness of a wealth which would fain give and bestow.

The noble man also helps the unfortunate, but not—or scarcely—out of pity, but rather from an impulse generated by the super-abundance of power. The noble man honours in himself the powerful one, him also who has power over himself, who knows how to speak and how to keep silence, who takes pleasure in subjecting himself to severity and hardness, and has reverence for all that is severe and hard.

Every elevation of the type "man" has hitherto been the work of an aristocratic society and so it will always be—a society believing in a long scale of gradations of rank and differences of worth among human beings, and requiring slavery in some form or other. Without the PATHOS OF DISTANCE, such as grows out of the incarnated difference of classes, out of the constant out-looking and down-looking of the ruling caste on subordinates and instruments, and out of their equally constant practice of obeying and commanding, of keeping down and keeping at a distance—that other more mysterious pathos could never have arisen, the longing for an ever new widening of distance within the soul itself, the formation of ever higher, rarer, further, more extended, more comprehensive states, in short, just the elevation of the type "man."

What, from an etymological perspective, do the meanings of “Good” as manifested in different languages really mean? There I found that all of them lead back to the same transformation of ideas, that everywhere “noble” or “aristocratic” in a social sense is the fundamental idea out of which “good” in the sense of “spiritually noble,” “aristocratic,” “spiritually high-minded,” “spiritually privileged” necessarily develop—a process which always runs in parallel with that other one which finally transforms “common,” “vulgar,” and “low” into the concept “bad.”

The Latin word bonus [good] I believe I can explicate as “the warrior,” Hence, bonus as a man of war, of division (duo), as a warrior. We can see what constituted a man’s “goodness” in ancient Rome.

Among the priests, however, everything mentioned above becomes more dangerous—not only the remedies and arts of healing, but also pride, vengeance, mental acuity, excess, love, thirst for power...

You will have already guessed how easily the priestly way of evaluating could split from the knightly-aristocratic and then continue to develop into its opposite. Such a development receives a special stimulus every time the priest caste and the warrior caste confront each other jealously and are not willing to agree about the winner. The knightly-aristocratic judgments of value have as their basic assumption a powerful physicality, a blooming, rich, even overflowing health, together with those things which are required to maintain these qualities—war, adventure, hunting, dancing, war games, and in general everything which involves strong, free, happy action. The priestly-noble method of evaluating has, as we saw, other preconditions: these make it difficult enough for them when it comes to war!

Human beings are still sick from the after-effects of priestly naïveté in healing! Let’s think, for example, of certain forms of diet (avoiding meat), of fasting, of celibacy, of the flight “into the desert”: consider also the whole metaphysic of the priests—so hostile to the senses, making men so lazy and sophisticated. Consider finally the only too understandable and common dissatisfaction with its radical cure, with nothingness (or God—the desire for a mystical union with God is the desire of the Buddhist for nothingness, nirvana—nothing more!).

We see that priests are the most evil of enemies—but why? Because they are the most powerless. From their powerlessness, their hate grows into something immense and terrifying, to the most spiritual and most poisonous manifestations. Those who have been the greatest haters in world history and the most spiritually rich haters have always been the priests.

When the oppressed, the downtrodden, the conquered say to each other, with the vengeful cunning of the powerless, “Let us be different from evil people, namely, good! And that man is good who does not overpower, who hurts no one, who does not attack, who does not retaliate, who hands revenge over to God, who keeps himself hidden, as we do, who avoids all evil and demands little from life in general—like us, the patient, humble, and upright”—what that amounts to, coolly expressed and without bias, is essentially nothing more than “We weak people are merely weak. It’s good if we do nothing, because we are not strong enough.”

That lambs are annoyed at the great predatory birds is not a strange thing, and the fact that they snatch away small lambs provides no reason for holding anything against these large birds of prey. And if the lambs say among themselves, “These predatory birds are evil—and whoever is least like a predatory bird—and especially anyone who is like its opposite, a lamb—shouldn’t that animal be good?” there is nothing to find fault with in this setting up of an ideal, except for the fact that the birds of prey might look down with a little mockery and perhaps say to themselves, “We are not at all annoyed with these good lambs—we even love them. Nothing is tastier than a tender lamb.”

These two opposing values “good and bad,” “good and evil” have fought a fearful battle on earth for thousands of years.

The symbol of this battle, written in a script which has remained legible through all human history up to the present, is called “Rome Against Judea, Judea Against Rome.” To this point there has been no greater event than this war, this posing of a question, the contradiction between these deadly enemies.

Rome felt that the Jews were something contrary to nature itself, something like its monstrous polar opposite. In Rome the Jew was considered “guilty of hatred against the entire human race.” And that view was correct, to the extent we are right to link the health and the future of the human race to the unconditional rule of aristocratic values, the Roman values.

The Romans were indeed strong and noble men, stronger and nobler than any people who had lived on earth up until then—or even than any people who had ever been dreamed up. Everything they left as remains, every inscription, is delightful, provided that we can guess what was doing the writing there. By contrast, the Jews were par excellence that priestly people of resentment, who possessed an unparalleled genius for popular morality.

Which of them has proved victorious for the time being, Rome or Judea? Surely there’s not the slightest doubt. Just think of who it is people bow down to today in Rome as the personification of all the highest values—and not only in Rome, but in almost half the earth, all the places where people have become merely tame or want to become tame—in front of three Jews, as we know, and one Jewess (in front of Jesus of Nazareth, the fisherman Peter, the carpet worker Paul, and the mother of the first-mentioned Jesus, named Mary).

We should not deck out and embellish Christianity: it has waged a war to the death against the higher type of man; it has put all the deepest instincts of this type under its ban, it has developed its concept of evil, of the Evil One himself, out of these instincts--the strong man as the typical reprobate, the "outcast among men."

[–]ubercoolhipsterguy1 point2 points  (3 children) | Copy Link

Christianity has taken the part of all the weak, the low, the botched; it has made an ideal out of antagonism to all the self-preservative instincts of sound life; it has corrupted even the faculties of those natures that are intellectually most vigorous, by representing the highest intellectual values - TRUTH - as sinful, as misleading, as full of temptation. The most lamentable example: the corruption of Pascal, who believed that his intellect had been destroyed by original sin, whereas it was actually destroyed by Christianity!

Christianity is called the religion of pity. Pity stands in opposition to all the tonic passions that augment the energy of the feeling of aliveness: it is a depressant. A man loses power when he pities. Through pity that drain upon strength which suffering works is multiplied a thousandfold. Suffering is made contagious by pity; under certain circumstances it may lead to a total sacrifice of life and living energy.

Upon the theological instinct I make war: I find the tracks of it everywhere. Whoever has theological blood in his veins is shifty and dishonourable in all things. The pathetic thing that grows out of this condition is called faith: in other words, not knowing what is true. People erect a concept of morality, of virtue, of holiness upon this false view of all things; they ground good conscience upon faulty vision; they argue that no other sort of vision has value any more, once they have made theirs sacrosanct with the names of "God," "salvation" and "eternity." I unearth this theological instinct in all directions: it is the most widespread and the most subterranean form of falsehood to be found on earth. Whatever a theologian regards as true must be false: there you have almost a criterion of truth.

They behave like women, all these great enthusiasts and prodigies--they regard "beautiful feelings" as arguments, the "heaving breast" as the bellows of divine inspiration, conviction as the criterion of truth.

We have unlearned something. We have become more modest in every way. We no longer derive man from the "spirit," from the "godhead"; we have dropped him back among the beasts. We regard him as the strongest of the beasts because he is the craftiest; one of the results thereof is his intellectuality. On the other hand, we guard ourselves against a conceit which would assert itself even here: that man is the great second thought in the process of organic evolution. He is, in truth, anything but the crown of creation: beside him stand many other animals, all at similar stages of development.

Under Christianity neither morality nor religion has any point of contact with actuality. It offers purely imaginary causes (“God,” “soul,” “ego,” “spirit,” “free will”—or even “unfree”), and purely imaginary effects (“sin,” “salvation,” “grace,” “punishment,” “forgiveness of sins”). Intercourse between imaginary beings (“God,” “spirits,” “souls”); an imaginary natural history (anthropocentric; a total denial of the concept of natural causes); an imaginary psychology (misunderstandings of self, misinterpretations of agreeable or disagreeable general feelings—for example, of the states of the nervus sympathicus with the help of the sign-language of religio-ethical balderdash—, “repentance,” “pangs of conscience,” “temptation by the devil,” “the presence of God”); an imaginary teleology (the “kingdom of God,” “the last judgment,” “eternal life”)...

Of course, they do not call themselves the weak; they call themselves “the good."

The Jews are the most remarkable people in the history of the world, for when they were confronted with the question, to be or not to be, they chose, with perfectly unearthly deliberation, to be at any price: this price involved a radical falsification of all nature.

In order to be able to say Nay to everything representing an ascending evolution of life—that is, to well-being, to power, to beauty, to self-approval—the instincts of ressentiment, here become downright genius, had to invent another world in which the acceptance of life appeared as the most evil and abominable thing imaginable.

The priest depreciates and desecrates nature: it is only at this price that he can exist at all.—Disobedience to God, which actually means to the priest, to “the law,” now gets the name of “sin”; the means prescribed for “reconciliation with God” are, of course, precisely the means which bring one most effectively under the thumb of the priest; he alone can “save”.... Psychologically considered, “sins” are indispensable to every society organized on an ecclesiastical basis; they are the only reliable weapons of power; the priest lives upon sins; it is necessary to him that there be “sinning”.... Prime axiom: “God forgiveth him that repenteth”—in plain English, him that submitteth to the priest.

Christianity sprang from a soil so corrupt that on it everything natural, every natural value, every reality was opposed by the deepest instincts of the ruling class—it grew up as a sort of war to the death upon reality, and as such it has never been surpassed. The “holy people,” had adopted priestly values and priestly names for all things, and, with a terrible logical consistency, had rejected everything of the earth as “unholy,” “worldly,” “sinful”...

It was through woman that man learned to taste of the tree of knowledge. God was seized by mortal terror; science makes men godlike—it is all up with priests and gods when man becomes scientific!—Moral: science is the forbidden per se; it alone is forbidden. Science is the first of sins, the germ of all sins, the original sin. This is all there is of morality.—“Thou shall not know”:—the rest follows from that.—God’s mortal terror, however, did not hinder him from being shrewd. How is one to protect one’s self against science? For a long while this was the capital problem. Answer: Out of paradise with man! Happiness, leisure, foster thought—and all thoughts are bad thoughts!—Man must not think.—And so the priest invents distress, death, the mortal dangers of childbirth, all sorts of misery, old age, decrepitude, above all, sickness—nothing but devices for making war on science! The troubles of man don’t allow him to think...

I have been understood. At the opening of the Bible there is the whole psychology of the priest.—The priest knows of only one great danger: that is science—the sound comprehension of cause and effect. But science flourishes, on the whole, only under favourable conditions—a man must have time, he must have an overflowing intellect, in order to “know.”... “Therefore, man must be made unhappy,”—this has been, in all ages, the logic of the priest.—It is easy to see just what, by this logic, was the first thing to come into the world:—“sin.”... The concept of guilt and punishment, the whole “moral order of the world,” was set up against science—against the deliverance of man from priests.... Man must not look outward; he must look inward. He must not look at things shrewdly and cautiously, to learn about them; he must not look at all; he must suffer.... And he must suffer so much that he is always in need of the priest.—Away with physicians! What is needed is a Saviour!

The whole labour of the ancient world gone for naught: I have no word to describe the feelings that such an enormity arouses in me.— To what end the Greeks? to what end the Romans?—All the prerequisites to a learned culture, all the methods of science, were already there; man had already perfected the great and incomparable art of read ing profitably—the unity of the sciences; the natural sciences, in alliance with mathematics and mechanics, were on the right road, and its traditions were already centuries old! Is all this properly understood?

All gone for naught! Overnight it became merely a memory!—The Greeks! The Romans! Instinctive nobility, taste, methodical inquiry, genius for organization and administration, faith in and the will to secure the future of man, a great yes to everything entering into the imperium Romanum and palpable to all the senses, a grand style that was beyond mere art, but had become reality, truth, life....—All overwhelmed in a night, but not by a convulsion of nature! Not trampled to death by Teutons and others of heavy hoof! But brought to shame by crafty, sneaking, invisible, anæmic vampires! Not conquered,—only sucked dry!... Hidden vengefulness, petty envy, became master! Everything wretched, intrinsically ailing, and invaded by bad feelings, the whole ghetto-world of the soul, was at once on top!

With this I come to a conclusion and pronounce my judgment. I condemn Christianity; I bring against the Christian church the most terrible of all the accusations that an accuser has ever had in his mouth. It is, to me, the greatest of all imaginable corruptions; it seeks to work the ultimate corruption, the worst possible corruption. The Christian church has left nothing untouched by its depravity; it has turned every value into worthlessness, and every truth into a lie, and every integrity into baseness of soul. Let any one dare to speak to me of its “humanitarian” blessings! It lives by distress; it creates distress to make itself immortal.

This eternal accusation against Christianity I shall write upon all walls, wherever walls are to be found—I have letters that even the blind will be able to see.... I call Christianity the one great curse, the one great intrinsic depravity, the one great instinct of revenge, for which no means are venomous enough, or secrets subterranean and small enough,—I call it the most immortal blemish upon the human race.

Dionysus vs. the Crucified.

r/NoFap is great... IF you jack off too much, that was me. Instead of doing homework and meeting people I would jack off, basically I was like an alcoholic but with jacking off. The thing is stopping jacking off is hard as fuck because there is a world of free porn and your dick is where it always is. The willpower that it takes for me to refrain from jacking off and only stick to women is worth it, I am aggressive, strong, and confident. Not because I stopped jacking off but because I set a goal and achieved it. If you can bust one out once in awhile that's great, however my life was so shitty until I discovered r/TheRedPill and r/NoFap all I had was wanking. Oh that and I developed erectile dysfunction at nineteen which was a nightmare. After about a year or so of nofap, self improvement, and redpill knowledge I am finally a man.

[–]Wolf_A10 points11 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

Nicely put, an alpha shows leadership traits by putting himself forward and getting shit done and not just for a desire for credit, because he will get it anyway. He takes responsibility and backs himself up on the risks he takes and regardless of the outcome he owns the situation like a boss. Blaming and victim mentality is a strict no no.

The society tells you to be more sensitive and get in touch with your feelings and ditch logic more so these days. Although discreetly it is okay, but never it is acceptable that those "norms" to be the basis of your personality.

[–]RedPill1157 points8 points  (4 children) | Copy Link

These lists play the ambiguous angle, which makes them appeal to a wider audience but also makes them almost entirely useless. It's very girl/political language, being vague enough to allow it to be interpreted any way you want.

"They don't waste time feeling sorry for themselves"

How much is "waste time"? Wallowing in it and never doing anything about it is wasting time, yes, but when I moved back from college I found myself friendless (college friends had all moved to other places) and if I even saw an attractive woman in a week it was exciting. Forget about talking to her.

It was feeling sorry for myself that eventually motivated me to do things I wasn't comfortable with until I found things that put me in a position where I was meeting girls, talking to girls, had attractive female friends, made guy friends.

That never would have happened had I told myself "oh, feeling sorry for yourself is a waste of time". I just would have been stuck in an endless loop of "oh, no, my life is fine" and never changed anything.

"They don't give away their power"

Again, it's so ambiguous that it means almost nothing. Give away all of your power, and you are a beta/gamma/omega chump. Give away no power whatsoever? Good luck finding a job or making friends. You're never in charge of everything.

I could go on, but this is the problem with lists like these - they make a point of using ambiguous wording that leaves the ideas open to interpretation that always ranges from good advice to terrible, all within the same sentence.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (1 child) | Copy Link

You didn't waste time feeling sorry for yourself. You felt sorry for yourself for as long as you needed until you realized that you had to do something. If you had had this realization but still didn't do anything and continued feeling sorry for yourself, then you'd be wasting time.

[–]Dorrog1 point2 points  (1 child) | Copy Link

You put on words what I was thinking but could not really pin down.

The advice is so general, so interpretable, it almost has no value. Trp was famous for giving solid, to the point advice, no some feel good general ideas.

Sometimes this kind of language is used for manipulative purposes. Since it's so vague, one can claim to be following it in almost any situation.

In other situations it's simply said this way to appeal to the largest audience. Like vague song lyrics, the goal is to get the largest number of people to associate with it so that it's popular (and sells a lot). Sitcoms do the same thing, leaving gaps that they don't define so that your brain fills the gaps in with whatever it wants to believe.

I upvoted it because I find posting stuff like this to be very useful for discussion. But it doesn't point anything out past create a list of topics you might think about.

it seems like Buddha and yet, was Buddha a RP?

[–]ilphae2 points3 points  (5 children) | Copy Link

Without question. Buddha started his life as a wealthy noble child. He was given anything in life one could imagine, luxury, women, comfort. This left him feeling discontented and unaccomplished. So, he gave up everything and began his quest for true happiness. He lived as a peasant and begged for food. He traveled and studied new ideas. Finally, starting a new religion that changed the world. He was as RP as they come.

[–]cikatomo0 points1 point  (4 children) | Copy Link

So why is then when somebody comes who has values same as Buddha, like avoiding conflict, giving out to others, not being selfish, as far as I know Buddha didn't lift, I mean, generally peaceful guy, he gets the label "Beta" or "blue pill" etc..?

[–]ilphae2 points3 points  (1 child) | Copy Link

I think this is a finer point that society is struggling with these days. There is a big difference between being in harmony and being a doormat. If a person is weak they must project kindness, this is a beta strat to hide and survive. If a person is so strong that they know they can afford to be kind, it is alpha. Only a fool struts around picking fights and flexing. Any woman worth a damn can see this insecurity immediately.

For me, the heart of buddhist thought comes down to, don't try to be.. Just be. Yeah, I am not a fully bought in to the religion. You're right that a person fully committed will probably accept someone dominating them. I feel this is the modern twist but not the heart of the philosophy. All religions have been twisted and modified to be tools of control. If you can shake off the bullshit, there is still some good stuff in there.

Ps. I am an atheist.

[–]foldpak1110 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy Link

That beta trait is so my dad. The way he panders to others is so cringe worthy. Being 130# skinny fat probably has much to do with it. Real high pitch voice too, chokes up when laughing. So sad

[–]hairaware0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy Link

People who come from a position of power who preach that have a choice bp do not.

[–]fathak0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy Link

absolutely! You should still metaphorically kill the Buddha if you meet him on the road though.

TIL I am a mental bodybuilder. My brains aesthetics and primo

[–]foldpak1112 points3 points  (1 child) | Copy Link

Mentally strong people don't waste time dwelling on the past and wishing things could be different. They acknowledge their past and can say what they've learned from it. However, they don't constantly relive bad experiences or fantasize about the glory days. Instead, they live for the present and plan for the future

Heres my problem

[–]Dorrog1 point2 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

While this is a good objective, if you take it too literally, it's not how our brain works. Sometimes you need to remember for a while until you fucking figure what went wrong. Just trying to ignore it won't solve it. Even if you think you know the lesson, if you keep dreaming about it, if it keeps poping in your brain during the day for apparently no good reason, if you keep getting raged about it, your subconscious is trying to tell you something. Until you can honestly look at it calmly, you haven't fully processed it yet.

The problem is you can get obsessed and make the problem worse, sometimes it's just better to go for a run or other exercise and let the brain do it's work. Or go with friends to do some stupid activity to get your brain to look at things from a different perspective. Or get distracted when you are at your limit.

But despite the possibility of obsessing, you need to deal with your shit. Ignoring it will make you weak. If you have a emotionally sane enough brain and the issue keeps poping up, it's for a good reason (and if you don't trust your brain, thats a life I can not imagine). And by dealing I don't mean making a social spectacle about it, I mean thinking on your own, maybe confide on a very good friend, telling your friends you are going through a rough patch without almost specifics...

I find the advice of not dwelling misleading for people who are in a moment where they have real issues. You need to think about your problems And that implies some level of suffering while you're emotional system processes it. It's probably good advice for a lot of people that does not have real issues and just like to "babycry", but it's not the best when the issue is real.

I hate articles like these because all these traits are easily breakable. Sometimes I just want to flip the bird to the world, yet according to this article, my mental toughness was compromised, because 'feeling' that way breaks one of the traits.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

Of corse it's okay to breakdown every once in awhile. It happens to everyone in this world. All it's saying is don't let it stick with you and ruin your day, find a way to push past those negative emotions to find the good again. Theres light at the end of the tunnel.

As an exercise in self evaluation, I copied these thirteen traits and evaluated myself against them in a word document, identifying the traits that most need my attention (Not resenting other people's success) and the traits that need no attention at all (Fearing time alone).

I'm going to look at the ones I need to improve on a few times a week and then at the end of the month re-evaluate myself.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy Link

Sounds like a good expirement! Let us now how it goes!

[–]Guntlips1 point2 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

This is good for recognizing weakness in others. Notice how the contrast to this list are bitch/feminine tendencies.

Its posts like these that make me wonder why most of the internet hates this sub.

They don't list everything as item number 1!

Just takin' a jab but you know.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy Link

I LOVE THE NUMBERING SYSTEM! GODS WILL SPRING FORTH FROM MY LOINS BECAUSE OF IT!

[–][deleted] -2 points-1 points  (4 children) | Copy Link

They don't have a bulleted list where every list item is "1."

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (1 child) | Copy Link

Once again, i listed it 1-13 while I was typing it. Im not sure how it changed to all "1." Could be a bug or something, I am on mobile.

That's reddit formatting that causes that though.

On point 11. While it is true that they can be happy alone, they only prosper by being among others. Don't think that if you are alpha if you stay at home and do nothing.

  1. They don't waste energy on things they can't control.

This is a contradiction with everything you have said before it. As "not shying away from change" is just a fancy way of saying "divert your energy ito the most profitable direction."

That does not mean there is no loss of power. A man can be physically beaten into the ground by the world around him. It is possible for a man to lose so poorly at life even against his best efforts, that he is crushed in spirit.

The whole world is something you cannot control. Trying to reserve all energy against the world is the same thing as not living physically or mentally. Instead you have to live in opposition to the circumstances of the world, good or bad, to weigh your actions against what you understand to be true, and what you know to be good.

This means you have the ability to know purely when something you desire will determine your own happiness, and you have a right to try to take it. Even if it's stealing, even if it's for the greater good, even if it's away from your friend, even if it's a woman's heart. That is why love is savage, and the law has to consider libel and intent.

TRP says to follow your instinct of what is good in your own understanding of the natural world, and that is why it prospers. And it is certainly not wasting energy on things you cannot control whatsoever. On the contrary it says that your pleasure-seeking mind is something which cannot be controlled, and that the world is something that you can only attempt to control; And even then only for the persuit of your own desire.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
