A tenant is a person who owns or leases and property. A tenet is a core belief or principle.

The speaker implies. The audience infers.

Women is plural. Women is plural. WOMEN IS PLURAL. You never see "a men" but you see "a women" all the fucking time on this sub and it makes me want to murder all of you.

None of you fucking know what a strawman or ad hominem is. (Hint: if I call you a fucking dry dick nerd loser whose mama dresses him funny, that's not "muh ad hom," that's just me insulting you.)

I will edit this post with more common mistakes as I think of them because I swear to God I see the same ones crop up over and over again and it's going to give me an aneurysm.

Nah, I saw it. That one just doesn't bother me as much.

So you're not irritated by being a hypocrite, like most technicality nazis, and saying shit like "strawman" instead of "straw man"? Figures, you're a woman, that increases your chances of being a hypocrite even more (and married, no less). I mean, there's no accountability in marriages for women, because most men are door mats.

[–]Texastentialism#1 gimpgirl stan0 points1 point  (1 child) | Copy Link

I genuinely didn't know it was two words. Thank you for teaching me a thing.

But "strawman" would be a misspelling in the same vein as "alot," which I already said I'm not bothered by. So no hypocrisy here.

Poster B: How dare you say that it's right that men do this!

Poster A: Thats not what I said, you're committing the naturalistic fallacy. Just because it's natural doesn't mean it's "right".

Poster B: NO. You're the one committing the naturalistic fallacy! You just told me that it's right that men do this!

Poster A: No, I said it's natural for men to do this. You're committing the naturalistic fallacy here, not me.

Poster B: SEE! You did it again! You just said Men doing this is right! You're the one committing the naturalistic fallacy!

And so on.....

Women is plural. Women is plural. WOMEN IS PLURAL.

Actually, AWALT. Therefore all women are basically the same person. Therefore if you refer to one woman (or indeed, one women) you refer to all of them, meaning the plural is appropriate

Exactly we refer to all people as man. So woman is fine.

[–]Wathalak-1 points0 points  (6 children) | Copy Link

"All Women Are Like That" is a subjective opinion, not a fact. Also, this is r/PurplePillDebate, not r/TheRedPill, so do away with the acronyms. Lastly, if you insist on calling a woman "women" or referring to a singular woman in the plural form, we'll have to insist on ackowledging your idiocy.

[–]buarthaDelights in homosexuality2 points3 points  (5 children) | Copy Link

No, literally all women are like that. Their brains are identical. If you expose 100 women to the same stimuli, every single time they will react the same way. If you don't understand that basic, undeniable scientific fact then what are you doing here?

[–]Wathalak-1 points0 points  (4 children) | Copy Link

They can both be a verb and a noun, this is true. However, I have never once on this sub (or really anywhere in casual conversation) seen someone use "effect" as a verb or "affect" as a noun correctly. They are almost always switching up the two words.

Also, "affect" as a noun is not pronounced the same as "effect" and doesn't mean the same thing. The two are not interchangeable, but people treat them as such.

[–]darudeboysandstormSoup on the stove, bread rising, apple pie0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy Link

[–]Merger-ArbitrageTriggermaster, Non-Pill, Cutting through the crap...2 points3 points  (3 children) | Copy Link

They are both a verb and a noun, actually. They mean somewhat different things, however. At least consult a dictionary before you post.

[–]Salty-Bastardjust an excitable boy3 points4 points  (2 children) | Copy Link

The majority of the time you use affect as a verb and effect as a noun. Affect can either mean "to influence" or "to act in a way that you don't feel." Effect typically means "a result."

They mean completely different things and are used incorrectly on this sub all the time. So yes, technically they can be both but as a rule of thumb for the fucking dumbasses they can start with that rule.

[–]Merger-ArbitrageTriggermaster, Non-Pill, Cutting through the crap...2 points3 points  (1 child) | Copy Link

Pointing people towards a dictionary sounds like a better way to teach them definitions of words. No half-baked outcomes possible.

The expression is "toe the line". It refers to the necessity for people standing on a line to place their toes on a gym floor line or some other line and to keep their feet behind or on that line.

It is not "tow the line". No one needs to pull a line. It is "TOE the line".

The expression is "tough row to hoe." It is NOT "tough road to hoe". It refers to gardening, and using the hand tool called a hoe to till and move dirt and soil.

No one is hoeing a road. It is ROW. Tough ROW to hoe.

[–]Million-SunsMarriage is obsolete-1 points0 points  (2 children) | Copy Link

Grammar nazis always miss the point. The point is to be understood and that the message goes through. Doesn't have to be fancy or grammatically correct.

[–]Texastentialism#1 gimpgirl stan0 points1 point  (1 child) | Copy Link

I actually agree with this! I'm not overly fussed with grammar or even spelling. We speak in a conversational tone here; it's not academic. I'm not going to lose my mind if someone says "alot" (as mentioned elsewhere in this thread) or "me and my wife." As long as we understand each other, it's all good.

I just have a huge pet peeve about words being used incorrectly, and oftentimes this does muddy the writer's intended meaning and create misunderstandings. To use one of the examples in my OP, if I tell you that "You implied that I was a communist," when I mean "You inferred that I was a communist," I am not conveying what I'm actually trying to convey -- in fact I'm saying the exact opposite of what I mean, and in doing so I'm unintentionally accusing you of doing something you did not do.

[–]Million-SunsMarriage is obsolete0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy Link

It's all good. At least your intervention had the merit of prompting me to search for the difference between "imply" and "infer".

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
