Rant/VentingMasculinity Under Attack: ESPN Has Become a Liberal, Feminist Media Outlet (self.TheRedPill)

submitted by [deleted]

Masculinity is under attack in America, and there is no better example than the downfall of ESPN.

Anyone who has been a steady consumer of ESPN over the last decade has surely noticed the network’s unmistakable shift towards a liberal agenda. I believe it began in 2014 with the obsessive, around-the-clock coverage of Michael Sam, a below-mediocre football player who became the first publicly-gay player to be drafted into the NFL.

The point of no return happened in 2015, when ESPN awarded Bruce (I refuse to call him Caitlyn) Jenner the Arthur Ashe Courage Award. This was a deliberate pursuit of a liberal agenda and an obvious attempt to increase viewership by appealing to an audience that has no interest in sports (feminists).

Since then, ESPN has relentlessly pushed a liberal ideology on its viewers. Its opinion shows talk about Trump (negatively) more than they talk about actual sports. They also peddle women’s rights, bullshit equality, and they consistently attack white male sports figures who don’t support the liberal agenda. Not even 2 weeks ago, ESPN led a witch-hunt of Under Armour CEO Kevin Plank for his pro-Trump comments. They also recently crucified Tom Brady for being friends with Donald Trump.

This post is not intended to complain about liberals. Rather, it is to demonstrate that masculinity is under attack in all aspects of American society. It used to be that men could turn on their TVs to watch sports without having to deal with politics or feminism. Sports was a male space where men could watch brutal NFL hits and top athletes compete. Now, this inherently male space has been infiltrated by women, feminism, and the left-wing.

The response? ESPN is hemorrhaging subscribers, with recent estimates estimating losses of 500,000 subscribers per MONTH. Granted, most of these are cable cutters, but some of them (like me) are fed up with the liberal infiltration of a once male space.

Be aware, gentlemen. The media is against you. Not even your sports are safe.

[–]illicitwit points points [recovered]

The Courage award given to Jenner was absurd - that year, there was a women's basketball player who should have won that award. She played through a brain tumor, spent most of her final months campaigning to raise awareness of the disease and ultimately died a few months after the ESPYs.

On a lighter note,

http://m.imgur.com/vbko6CZ

[–]Popular-Culture points points [recovered]

ESPN decided that the views of brainless people who watch the Kardashians were more important than honoring a girl who actually deserved the award.

[–][deleted] 34 points35 points  (3 children)

Media has no fucking integrity anymore. I'm not really an avid consumer of sports entertainment (will watch the occasional Duke v Carolina basketball games and such), but this saddens me so much, especially as a kid that grew up playing travel and school sports up till end of high school.

Kids nowadays that are so involved in sports have these fucking morally indifferent fools as figureheads? Disgusting.

[–]Johnnyvile 33 points34 points  (2 children)

Media has never had integrity.

[–]Spidertech500 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Ding ding ding, the real redpill is always in the comments.

[–]L00rd0fd00m 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The sad and inconvenient truth, as like everything follow the trend to stay relevant.

[–]Senior Endorsed ContributorVasiliyZaitzev 134 points135 points  (3 children)

Actually, there's another angle to Bruce Jenner's win:

Just to prove that men are better at everything, we went out and won "Woman of the Year" /grin

[–]RedPillFusion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

TRIGGERED! Where's muh tumblr?!

[–]cashmoney_x 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You reddited during that time as well I see.

[–]FrozenHearth 26 points27 points  (4 children)

Also don't forget that Bruce/Caitlyn Jenner was involved in a car accident and was left scot-free.

[–]bimbohunter 52 points53 points  (2 children)

Not just a car accident. He was texting and driving and ended up killing a little old lady.

[–]FrozenHearth 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I phrased it badly lol.

[–][deleted] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

And it totally backfired when it turned out that Jenner was a Trump supporter

[–]RedditAdminsSuck_88 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The backstory on that award is that Bruce Jenner winning that award was pre-arranged as part of the Diane Sawyer interview.

[–]WhySoRuff 37 points38 points  (9 children)

Makes you really think about ANY & EVERY award doesn't it?

Noble Peace Prize went to Obama - the man has been officially at war more days than any other president in U.S. history. Get this, every single day in his 8 year tenure.

In 2016 the Los Angeles Times won the Pulitzer Prize for Breaking News Reporting. Check out the title of one of the articles:

"We may never know why the San Bernardino terrorists targeted a Christmas party. Here's what we do know" LOL

I know, I know, this shit belongs in the red pill right sub, but that manly ass hand shake between those two men has got me feeling the camaraderie and I had to share.

[–]cashmoney_x 3 points4 points  (2 children)

I'm mostly with ya but if they were at war on day 1 of his presidency.....I mean come on.

[–]NYEThrowaway_User_[🍰] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

he didn't do anything to end the wars. He only helped create more wars in Libya, Syria and Yemen.

[–]juliusstreicher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It takes a President 15 seconds to end a war.

[–]ArkAngelEV 1 point2 points  (4 children)

Let's not be insensitive. I bet it does take a lot of courage having someone cut off your own dick. Would you do that?

[–]juliusstreicher 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Jenner sure hasn't done it.

[–]ArkAngelEV 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Oh! Thought he did; well fuck him, he didn't even go through the pain of it!

[–]juliusstreicher 0 points1 point  (1 child)

That's one of the things that pisses me off about this. He gets an award for wearing makeup and a dress, and saying "I'm a woman, and I'm going to cut off my weiner", and, then, he doesn't follow through with the most essential part!

On top of that, he said, recently, that he's rethinking that part. I'm just wondering how many confused people that he inspired to go through with the actual operation, and, now, he is backing out! Teehee!

[–]ArkAngelEV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got to hand it to Bruce; he did pass stage one of being a woman by not following through on his word.

[–]juliusstreicher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. And bitch boy Jenner didn't even cut his dick off, yet he dares to call himself a trans. what courage has he shown????

[–]omgimbackagain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I listen to the PTI podcasts when im driving, Really stood out all the HAPPY HOLIDAYS! they were throwing around. Not a single Merry Christmas.

[–]beautifulexit 70 points71 points  (1 child)

I totally noticed this too. Stephen A. Smith and Max Kellerman once spent a two-hour show talking about Trump's travel ban just because some coach commented on it. That's why I don't watch ESPn anymore

[–][deleted] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

That's freaking nuts. When I tune into ESPN, I do it because I want to watch sports highlights and some news on what is going on in different leagues. Not for political commentary.

[–]Sks44 35 points36 points  (6 children)

Modern media is aimed at teenage/young adult white girls. They are the demographic that spends the most money. So media execs try to appeal to what they think they will like.

If you get that demo, you're gold. It will watch the same shit over and over and keep spending. ESPN is an example of execs trying to appeal to that demo and turning off the demo that made them successful.

[–]TedCruzEatsBoogers2 22 points23 points  (2 children)

Women are responsible for something like 80% of consumer spending either directly or secondarily. With those numbers, 1 female viewer is worth 4 male viewers. This applies to all forms of media that are funded by advertising including the "news".

Hence the war on masculinity.

We live in a woman's world now, they bought right in front of us.

[–][deleted] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Manufacturing consent. Since media is owned by shareholders and they want record profits, they pander to what gets the most views and that gets the advertising money.

[–]stemgang 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Men earn, and women spend. So unfair to women.

[–]TheEarlobe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is true with books. Women age 12-25 buy more books than any other age group and so most commercial books are marketed to them. Even books for guys are marketed to females because they buy it for their bfs.

[–]ThirstyBetaMale points points [recovered]

This is the reason why the NFL halftime show is always somebody like Beyonce or Lady Gaga instead of something rock or even hip hop related. I knew a guy who worked in the industry and he said that they had to book pop artists to attract teenage white girls primarily. And I was like, "For the NFL?" Jesus.

[–]LoneStarG84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Guys are already watching the game, they want the wives/girlfriends too.

[–][deleted] 57 points58 points  (11 children)

aint it fascinating that companies deliberately turn so so liberal despite hemorrhaging cash in the process? ESPN is bleeding to death and becoming cuck central is certainly part of the reason why

[–]Popular-Culture points points [recovered]

It's the worst business decision I've ever seen because sports fans are NOT liberal, they're conservative. Especially NFL fans.

ESPN's biggest sport (the sport they pay the most for TV rights to) is the NBA. NBA has the biggest black viewership of all sports, and black people tend to be socially conservative. They don't want transgendered Jenners and Colin Kaepernick being shoved down their throats.

They chose this, so fuck them.

[–]TheOneTrueMagnet points points [recovered]

NFL fans are a cross-section of America. Even if half of them wanted progressive rhetoric, you are alienating half your customers for no reason whatsoever. The reality is that even progressive sports fans don't want to hear politics when watching sports either.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. I don't think anyone thinks "I wonder what Trump did today" and flips to ESPN.

[–]1TimmyTurnersNuts 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Absolutely agree. Socially conservative. Most of us don't play that freak shit. Its degrading and humiliation. Hell I barely watch television anymore.

[–]WhorehouseVet 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Comapneis are still led by people. When people's ego investment doesn't pan out, usually they just double down instead of taking a step back and review the whole picture, sort of like a sunk cost fallacy.

[–]esoterickek 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Jews have lots of money to burn. It's well worth it if they know they've done just that little bit more damage to the west.

[–]docbloodmoney 9 points10 points  (2 children)

owned by jews who prioritize destruction of the west over profits

[–]itsawomensworld 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Since when have Jews ever prioritized anything over profit. A lot of Jews are left leaning because leftist idiots make people feel bad for having money which is why rich people are often leftists. It's a way for people to virtue signal. Even though, the right is actually counterintuitivly more moral as it respects people's freedoms

[–]2jagrmeister721 12 points13 points  (0 children)

ESPN is obsessed with "Leaning In" when it comes to the NBA, putting a female host on seemingly all of their NBA shows. Even if they know nothing about the game like Michelle Beadle. No matter if it's pre-game, half-time or a separately airing NBA show, there always has to be a female host. And of course, she has to be of the 'feminist' mold- snippy, playing favorites, trying to bluster her way through the show instead of knowing anything about the game....

[–]Platos_slow_brother 29 points30 points  (1 child)

ESPN is shit.

And quit watching sports generally, because the NCAA and pro leagues are all bowing and scraping to SJW bullshit. If something becomes a SJW bullhorn, drop it from your life, and speak ill of it to others.

[–]kayvaaan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even the gym? But muh gains!

Just kidding guys. Lighten up a little.

[–]mgtowtrp 9 points10 points  (0 children)

ESPN sucks now. I remember when I used to turn on SportsCenter and most of the time they showed the best highlights of all of yesterday's games, which made it fun to watch. Now, the entire show is the talking heads giving their "reactions", predictions, and other worthless opinions.

[–]docbloodmoney 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It always was, like everything on TV

[–]KingKennyCool 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I cut the cord years ago but I work in a bar that shows sports. I've started tuning in any channel but ESPN when I can.

[–]abdada 71 points72 points  (120 children)

Professional sports viewing is a lazy behavior that has no place in the life of a guy who still hasn't built his empire.

Fandom for a young man is destructive. The only time I am OK with watching sports is if you're entertaining clients with decent tickets and covering their liquor costs to butter them up to signing a bigger contract.

Fuck ESPN, let the women have their TV sets. A man is out playing sports with other men, not cheering on some guy in tights wearing a pink ribbon.

[–]BullshittingNonsense 60 points61 points  (35 children)

All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. All play and no work makes Jack a mere toy.

[–]prodigy2throw 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Sports, and television, movies in general are pure escapism. It's something to distract labourers from how shitty their life is.

The sheer number of tv shows out here that friends of mine are following is insane. I don't know how they would be able to get anything else done. It feels like every week there's a new show that I just HAVE to watch.

[–]PissedPajamas 9 points10 points  (2 children)

This. I can't understand people who live vicariously through a sports team. "We made it to the finals!" No you didn't, the team you're rooting for did. Go play football/basketball instead of screaming at your tv everytime a ref makes a bad call and maybe you wouldn't be a fat lard

[–]abdada 3 points4 points  (1 child)

And doing it in front of your kids, showing emotion at paid clowns, just teaches them emotions are for consumerism. Gross.

[–]PissedPajamas 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I enjoy going to see my favorite baseball team as much as anyone else and it's a good feeling to cheer them on and watch them win, but my comment is aimed at those that live and breathe sports. All that time spent on your fantasy draft, looking up stats and arguing who's the better player can be channeled into becoming a better athlete

[–]purduered 65 points66 points  (14 children)

This sub has gone to absolute shit as evidenced by top comments like this and a lot of the responses. Do any of you actually discuss sexual strategy anymore or is it trying to AMOG everyone and determine what and who a man should be? If a guy enjoys watching sports who the fuck cares? It is a hobby, and everyone can choose as they please. Telling an individual they are not a man or trying to belittle someone for enjoying something they are doing freely is just hilarious and partially pathetic.

[–]greatslyfer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That awkward moment when you're doing the sports that you want AND occasionally spectating some matches.

Point being just because I enjoy how a particular athlete performs or a team plays doesn't mean I can't perform in the real world.

[–]Professor_Red points points [recovered]

I'd agree with a small edit: If you don't actively partake in said sport yourself.

No one is going to trash Joe Rogan for watching BJJ, why? Because he himself is a big martial artists.

However, that is different from Joe Smith, the 350 lb fatass who was a high school football player(and only high school), who cant do a sit-up or pull-up yelling at his TV every Saturday because 'his' team lost.

TL;DR: Watch a sport if you are active in it

[–]abdada 1 point2 points  (2 children)

That's true IF you manage to focus on reaching athletic levels of the sport you like.

I visited a bunch of BJJ gyms in my area to try to give a recommendation to some guys who wanted to try it out. All those guys are BJJ fanatics to the point of spending thousands of dollars a year just watching a sport and supporting some clown on stage.

All the gyms I visited were fat guys trying to play BJJ together. I asked one of the gym owners if he had any examples of an athlete and he had to think for a minute and said "well, my trainers."

Google these two terms since I can't link for shit from this sub: CORFing and BIRGing.

There are hundreds if not thousands of pieces on NIH and other research websites over the years that show how detrimental these behaviors are to men (emasculating them) and to women (masculating them).

[–]1StoicCrane 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Yes. I remember training with this dude in college who was decent at BJJ and he was fairly oveweight. Men are being institutionally and socially sabotaged into adopting effeminized behavioral patterns.

[–]cha54mi 6 points7 points  (3 children)

Go build your empire. Because there is no way youll improve at a certain sport without watching some pros doing their thing

[–]abdada 9 points10 points  (2 children)

lol, watching pros in an engineered entertainment program won't help you for shit.

You can't watch drama movies and learn to act, either. You can't watch stand up comedians on TV and learn to properly time jokes or pull a crowd.

You don't learn from watching, you learn from trying and failing. This is why college is so useless for men -- all you do in college is watch in a safe environment. Men who learn a trade through real work, real risk are the ones who ean real rewards.

TV fandom is blue pill and best suited for bored housewives.

[–]cha54mi 3 points4 points  (1 child)

So athletes who get their legs snaped in half is engineered broadcasting. Thanks for this life changing tip

[–]abdada 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course, they specifically want to highlight that kind of fear element in the emotional programming.

The athlete doing the acting is the winner. The person watching it gets numbed to reality. Real emotions seem less...useful and worthy to seek.

[–]Senior Endorsed Contributormax_peenor 7 points8 points  (2 children)

Professional sports viewing is a lazy behavior that has no place in the life of a guy who still hasn't built his empire.

There are those that watch. There are those that do.

Imagine the sport is "fucking your wife." Are you on top of her or are you seeing it on TV? Let that imagery sink in next time you grab for the tv remote.

[–]abdada 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Thank god I don't have a TV. I can't imagine sitting on a couch with a hot girl next to me, both of us getting emotions out of actors on TV.

[–]Senior Endorsed Contributormax_peenor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure who would downvote you, but I gave it back. Exactly.

[–]Popular-Culture points points [recovered]

Yep. People are going to downvote you because you're crushing their blue pill lifestyle (sitting on the couch with a beer watching football), but what you say is 100% true.

Sports uses a group herd mentality that makes you feel like you're part of the team. Then you spend your money on stupid merchandise, watch their games (advertisement revenue), and become a blind follower. It's all marketing and psychology.

[–]Slut_Slayer9000 37 points38 points  (14 children)

Watching Sports is a fucking social event. 99% of guys that I know that don't give a fuck about sports can be narrowed to A. raised by a single mother, B. their father also didn't give a flying fuck about sports, or C. there were very introverted and preferred to play video games or some other introverted hobby. But more then likely its a case of the environment you grew up in. My family is uber competitive we would have family football and basketball games yearly growing up and on family holidays like thanksgiving ect. I would play sports in my free time as a child. All the guys in my family are super close so I grew up literally going on sports trips to watch our teams play in various cities. I played sports in school. Albeit now I'm not into as much, I'm too fucking busy, but I do know enough to be able to shoot the shit and have comradery with other guys who are passionate or enjoy sports. The only team I really follow is my local football franchise who every American has heard of, and most like. And every time I watch them on sunday's its some form of a social event. If you think men enjoying football is blue pill then you're fucking what's wrong with the current trend the red pill is heading towards which is mirco analyzing every single fucking thing in life, and trying to filter it through red pill philosophies then deducting whether its good or bad so you can post about it for karma, which is fucking blue pill in itself cause you have a lot more productive things you could be doing with your life right now then shitposting about how blue pill sports is.

[–]1OneRedYear 6 points7 points  (1 child)

Dad coached our little league. I played football and ran track through college. Won more than few track meets. Don't give a single fuck about sports at all. I don't care if other people do. I will drink a few beers and watch a few MMA fights but I don't follow the sport. Different people have different interests. This whole narrowly defining what is blue pill and redpill comes down to men who don't have a personal definition of what manhood is because they have no model to base it on. They have to conform to a groupthink, either bluepill, liberal, conservative or "redpill". Fortunately there are some of us who still know that the redpill is just a set

[–]Slut_Slayer9000 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This whole narrowly defining what is blue pill and redpill comes down to men who don't have a personal definition of what manhood is because they have no model to base it on.

Spot on, I 100% agree with that.

[–]abdada 9 points10 points  (5 children)

Social event doing what? Drinking piss brew and Doritos?

The science proves that being a fan of a team actually can lower your testosterone and destroy your motivation in other aspects of life.

Google: BIRGing and CORFing. Read the research on both. It's got an ugly outcome, no matter what one used to do when they were athletic and fit. At least you lift and stay fit, but how many sports fans can say that?

[–]joseph177 2 points3 points  (1 child)

BIRGing and CORFing

Thanks for pointing this out, would like to read your other post on this subject.

[–][deleted] 8 points9 points  (2 children)

The science proves that being a fan of a team actually can lower your testosterone

True. But it can also raise your testosterone when your team wins.

BTW, the same is true for actually playing sport. Winners have elevated testosterone levels compared to losers.

[–]abdada 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Yeah it can elevate T and it can depress it. Bipolar in terms of dopamine and serotonin is researched whereas bipolar T hasn't been well enough. I don't believe in roller coastering my T.

Also, it's been shown that athletes raise T regardless of win, but winning raises it more. Same with hunters.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Also, it's been shown that athletes raise T regardless of win, but winning raises it more.

In the long term athletes have higher than average testosterone levels, due to exercise. But when they lose a competition they still experience a decline in testosterone. Losing an athletic contest lowers testosterone for men, although the amount varies depending on how well they played the game and their starting levels. Men with higher starting testosterone experience less of a testosterone setback after losing and are more likely to want to compete again soon.

I don't believe in roller coastering my T.

Fair enough. I do not watch sports either, and I was very involved in my youth.

[–]theONE843663 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You eventually grow out of sports tbh. I used to be a soccer fanboy once... Now I only watch the world cup and euro cup since I quit watching TV.

[–]Popular-Culture points points [recovered]

If you read the rest of my comments, you would see that I said this:

at the end of the day, sports like football and basketball are masculinity at its heart, so it's not the worst thing to watch moderately.

[–]abdada -3 points-2 points  (2 children)

"In moderation" is a term invented by those who produce addictive products or services.

You can not moderate something that has a likelihood to become a reinforced behavior ("addiction").

Cocaine and meth are fine, in moderation. /S

[–]silverfoot60 4 points5 points  (1 child)

So you're saying drinking alcohol is impossible in moderation?

[–]abdada 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So you're saying drinking alcohol is impossible in moderation?

Impossible might have been too strong a word, but otherwise correct. Have I met people who can moderate alcohol? Sure. Rare outliers. Most of the people I know who say they're going to moderate drinking never moderate drinking ever.

I can't begin to list how many amazing alpha-type dude I knew 20 years ago who refused to stick to sobriety and are total losers today. None of my inner circle drinks socially often. We don't hang out drinking beers and shooting the shit.

[–]SovereignSoul76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The term you are looking for is "Social Currency".

[–]RedditAdminsSuck_88 6 points7 points  (17 children)

I mean, I work directly in sports broadcasting, its what I do for a living so I might not be the most unbiased person here.

There are a lot worse things you could be doing than watching sports.

The skinny fat defeated husbands who use beer & sports as an escape from their nagging post wall wife? Yeah its bad in that context.

But I think its preferable to playing video games, or smoking weed, or other worthless activities. You can't be out and about 24 hours a day. Lift, yes, approach, yes, work hard, yes, build wealth, yes, but a man needs some downtime.

I don't watch much sports in my downtime with that being said. Haven't watched the NFL voluntarily in years. NBA is a shit product full of prima donnas. MLB is really the only pro sport I watch. Then college football and college basketball.

[–]Popular-Culture points points [recovered]

The skinny fat defeated husbands who use beer & sports as an escape from their nagging post wall wife

This is a pretty large chunk of certain sports' viewership (namely the NFL), so that's why I generalized. You're right though, there are worse things you can be doing. It all comes down to balance. I've seen people have their whole week ruined because their team got knocked out of the playoffs. This is unhealthy and honestly pathetic. But at the end of the day, sports like football and basketball are masculinity at its heart, so it's not the worst thing to watch moderately.

[–]RedditAdminsSuck_88 5 points6 points  (1 child)

This is unhealthy and honestly pathetic. But at the end of the day, sports like football and basketball are masculinity at its heart, so it's not the worst thing to watch moderately.

This is the core of it. While /u/abdaba is right in saying its better to be playing than watching, if you are going to watch something on TV, better sports that actually displays masculinity and achievement than something gay and faggy like anime or some stupid movie or TV show with moonbat leftist feminist actors and actresses.

I played football in college, and put that shit on my resume. It has led to many great things. That's why I hope my college team does well. It helps with connections and networking.

[–]abdada 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The problem is that modern engineered sports of any kind are cluttered with so much marketing that it amazes me people can't see what they fall victim to. It is very, very hard to be a TV fan and NOT fall victim to the constant push for more consumerism outside of the TV show.

If you absolutely must follow a team, buy season tickets and go to the games and network with other guys there if you can. At least in person you've got a lot less pressure from the digital engineering aspects.

[–]1StoicCrane 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But I think its preferable to playing video games, or smoking weed, or other worthless activities.

Agreed yet disagree. They're more or less in the same boat. Modern console, PC, and Handhold gaming is a time. However, if a guy retro games to rekindle a nostalgia-esqe experience to reconnect with some aspect of their childhood for an hour and hit the weights for three it's no issue. Same can be said for sports but when the activities become all encompassing lifestyles that's where the line gets crossed. No one should define themselves as a video gamers or a sports fans to the point where they become objects of worship. That sets one up for a world of disappointment.

[–]theONE843663 0 points1 point  (12 children)

What's the difference between 1 hour of watching sports and beer drinking? Vs 1 hour of video gaming?

One activity has cognitive benefits, the other has none.

[–]RedditAdminsSuck_88 8 points9 points  (1 child)

The cognitive benefits of video games are drastically overstated

[–]theONE843663 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All of you whom are responding aren't fighting the original argument. 1hr active entertainment > 1hr passive entertainment. That is fact!

Some benefits > no benefits. That's also fact!

[–]abdada 2 points3 points  (3 children)

None of those have real cognitive benefits except in research funded by companies that produce the consumer product.

[–]theONE843663 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Well you'll have to try that out for yourself to find out then. But basic neuroscience dictates that active entertainment > passive entertainment.

Plopping down on sofa won't even train your reaction time.

Board Games like chess have been proven to improve cognition. So if you play chess on your computer for 1hr, that is surely better than watching TV.

If you play a shooting game, that will improve your hand eye coordination and reaction time much more than trying to track the hockey puck on TV.

Or if you play 1 hour of FIFA, you'll be better off than watching TV. Me and my bros play FIFA and drink all the time than watching fucking sports on TV. We have more fucking fun doing that.

[–]abdada 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Video games, digital gaming, anything with push a button and reward is generated is totally unhealthy for dopamine sensitivity.

Playing a board game in real life is better. Playing it on an app is harmful, or can be. It can create a reinforcing behavior aka addiction.

If you get some pleasure with your friends playing video games, it's fine as long as you're earning real rewards in real life.

If all your friends are losers avoiding empire building, look closer at your beliefs.

[–]theONE843663 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're still not getting the argument. I did not argue whether or not video gaming was addicting or not. For the last time: The argument is watching TV vs gaming!!!

Watching TV has the same dopamine rush and reward system: except you don't even have to do do shit to get rewarded. Turn on the fucking TV, and plop down on the couch. You don't even get the cognitive benefits. Comparatively, video games > TV for the same amount of time consumed. This is not something you can debate.

It's like comparing tea and coffee. They can both be bad for you, have no effect, or even benefit you. But health wise, drinking tea is better than drinking coffee.

Now how in the fuck do you stray from the argument to postulating about my life and my circle of friends is what I do not understand.

I personally spend most of my gaming time (3-5 hr a week mostly) in project cars and asetto corsa. Also have a full sim setup. I also have a home gym and am in good health. But this isn't relevant in this argument.

[–]WazzuMadBro 1 point2 points  (5 children)

Dear god this sub has gone full blow neckbeard retard when its members are upvoting a "man" who claims being a gaymer is more manly than watching sports. What a joke

[–]theONE843663 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not a "gamer". I don't identify as one. I don't define myself with things that I do. I'm not discussing manliness here. Never discussed manliness. Where did I claim that gaming is more manly than watching sports?

What I'm discussing is Active entertainment > passive entertainment. Stay on topic.

[–]1StoicCrane 0 points1 point  (3 children)

My language teacher in HS often told me "Life is not a spectator sport". One has to participate to accelerate personal life prospects. "Watching" anything on a plasma screen idiot box is likely to cause personal stagnation.

[–]abdada 12 points13 points  (9 children)

I wrote a bit of a post about this on another sub. There are decades of research on how fucked up the brain gets when a person becomes a fan of another.

Over the past few years I had the unlikely opportunity to interview two retired but famous sports engineers who told me how they engineer sportscasts to engage users to consume more beer and crap food and get all emotional over guys who wear a city logo but aren't from that city.

Sports fandom is ridiculous. It's fine for children, maybe. I wouldn't want my sons to do it, though.

Starting in March every year I get together with some of my inner circle and we invite new guys to throw a Frisbee disc around ("Ultimate-style") and we have a fucking blast. We always schedule it around when guys would be watching sports.

[–]slay_it_forward 14 points15 points  (4 children)

manly man with that frisbee disc.

[–]abdada 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Yeah women love playing frisbee with me, too. And all the guys are ripped from sprinting.

[–]Dopesack points points [recovered]

Nah, you should be on the couch rooting people who throw a different object around while your girl "who also likes sports" drools over touchdown dances.

[–]abdada points points [recovered]

The funny thing is, the only time I ever caught my girl drooling over another guy was when we were on a ship together with a surfboard simulator pool. The guy was in his 50s, somewhat dad bod, and I was drooling too because he was sexy AF doing 360s or more on a surf pool, lolol.

We hit him up later when we saw him again and found out he was gay. My ass still hurts.

[–]1StoicCrane 2 points3 points  (2 children)

It's a form of idolatry. Men worshipping other menm It's innately revolting.

[–]abdada 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's worse.

"Hey, let me take you HB10 on a date to show off a chef or bartender or actor or musician!" = Modern Dating 101.

[–]dudet23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its more uncanny than that on a racial level. Something just makes me cringe about a bunch of white dopey guys obsessing about football and NBA especially when they obsess about the black players.

I just can't help wonder what message that sends to white women when white guys obsess about black sports players. Seems pretty cucky. On a similar level as white guys who obsess about rap.

I love sports. But I don't worship or obsess about sports players.

[–]army_of_fartness points points [recovered]

I agree 100%. This shit is for losers. Instead of living your life vicariously through people on a screen, go outside and achieve something yourself.

[–]abdada 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you want to get involved with spectator sports, invest in local youth leagues as a sponsor. Go to events, award the trophy or prize, and meet other businessmen.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fuck yeah! At Golf Club I belonged to before moving, there were several pro-athletes who were members. One time one asked if I was interested in an autograph. I gave him mine and then we went out on the course and did battle. I ain't asking no man for an autograph.

[–]WillieMaize 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't watched sports for years, except when I've been with a group of people who are watching it. I can't see the attraction of following a team anymore, and as I remember they showed too many close ups and "reaction shots" that detracted from the game The only sports event I'll even consider watching would be the highlights of judo championship matches on YouTube, and that's only because I can appreciate the skill that's involved. .

[–]logicalthinker1 -2 points-1 points  (4 children)

Lololol you sound like a blast at parties

[–]abdada -2 points-1 points  (3 children)

I actually am. My parties actually ban a lot of that noise and have always been a must-do for a lot of people.

My last party was no-smart phones and no-digital cameras. Ban the fuck out of those who violate the rules, too.

[–]Henrywinklered 5 points6 points  (2 children)

So basically you spend the whole party walking around policing people who want to take pictures?

[–]abdada 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I don't, there are people who handle security and rules.

Same is true with RSVP -- if you don't RSVP for my party, you can't come in or visit. I had an LTR who laughed off the RSVP months earlier and she was banned from it as well.

RSVP is respect, and why bother with someone who can't follow a simple plan?

[–]Luckyluke23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you do know, ESPN is owned by Disney right?

[–]bbiyf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where do you go for your sports news now? I cut the cable and I'd like to shift away completely from their website. I already switched to Yahoo for all fantasy sports.

[–]apimpnamedgekko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is this breaking news? Seems to have been that way for about a decade....

[–]xalpha23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I honestly think it's only to get viewers and stir up some controversy. Their only agenda is shitposting. Whatever gets people talking. Just look at a character like skip Baylee's who was working for espn for the last 10 years or so until he went to fox

[–]TryDoingSomethingNew 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Glad to see someone else noticed. I'm not into sports, but my gym has that @#$%& ESPN channel on, and I had seen reports on the internet how they decided to force "diversity" onto the channel.

Seeing some white-bread middle class white women trying to be "one of the guys" and talk sports is honestly fucking ridiculous.

I always stand up on the ledge and turn the TV off.

Notice that ESPN and the NFL don't admit their decisions are wrong and change back to their former selves. What do they do? They double down, and keep doing more of the same, *desipite continuing to see negative feedback and consequences.

Never forget:

  • SJWs always lie
  • SJWs always double down <-- TRUE!

[–]dudet23 1 point2 points  (1 child)

They always seem to pair blonde white ladies with black former athletes as well. And I think its wrong and bad signalling. Not something that would have been socially acceptable in the 80s.

[–]TryDoingSomethingNew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can it possibly be more forced or obvious? I'm honestly surprised they don't through in a tranny, Muslim, and 1 or 2 other "diverse" icons.

I mean, really!

[–]unpluggedoasis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Once they started getting all political and attacking President Trump I turned that garbage off and havent really watched sports anymore. Too bad I used to really enjoy them but these media mouthpieces just cant stfu.

[–]Godskook 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They're not liberals, they're progressives(you probably called them liberals out of convenience). Fuck them.

[–]digitalbitch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This post has given me AIDS.

[–]ichlibejuice 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What the fuck does trump have to do with masculinity?

[–]bigcitytruth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nail on the head about the feminism stuff.

However ....

This post is not intended to complain about liberals.

Now let me say something that will blow your mind. It IS indeed possible to have a fully-grown pair of balls AND to not want to suck Mr Trump's dick. Get over yourself.

[–]RPwhitefrost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a response to the OP (who I agree with, btw), but to the thread as a whole.

I know I'm gonna be downvoted for this, and I really shouldn't be surprised, but, fuck guys, enough with this "too cool for school" mentality. We get it, you're involved with your more important endeavors, like researching all your bro science shit to get better gainz and become Chad, but c'mon there's nothing wrong with a man enjoying sports.

I played sports all through high school. Still love to play whatever I can, when I can, from baseball to golf. Sports helped me with social skills, growing more confident, and kept me in shape.

And I have always been and still am an avid follower of baseball, soccer, football, and basketball. And am I some beta blue pill bitch? No. In fact, when I watch sports on TV, I'm typically doing something else, either doing work at home or lifting, whether it be at home or at the gym. And even if I decide to spend a night or two a week spending three hours from 7-10 doing nothing but watching a baseball game, it's not going to kill me. Most people can fit that leisure time into their schedule and still work, lift, read, attend school, et al.

There's nothing wrong with loving sports. The problem comes when you're the overweight, obsessive slob who spends his day trying to call into all the different local sports radio stations— and that's not the fault of the sports; it's the guy that has the problem.

I don't disagree that the leagues are starting to bow down to SJW BS. It's getting harder and harder to watch the NBA and NFL for that reason imo. But baseball and golf at least still have some integrity (although, if the current commissioner gets his way he'll ruin baseball). Soccer, unfortunately, still seems to be in the domain of liberal, beta neckbeards, but, like most entertainment these days, I just kinda try to drown out the background noise and enjoy the actual product.

I love this sub and all it's given me, but damn I sometimes I just get sick of all the pseudo intellectuals and wannabe Chads on here who think every waking second of your life that isn't spent working or fucking women has to be devoted to reading philosophy and hitting the gym.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I cancelled cable specifically because of CNN, MSNBC, ESPN, and the rest of the regressive left media. Don't even care anymore.

[–]RobbieRoor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh jesus here we go again with you fucking asshats. Yes I'm a man. Wtf is wrong with everyone?

[–]TheOfficialJoeBiden 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Real masculinity doesn't mean not being liberal or hating transgendered people or loving sports. You're just over compensating with macho man bullshit.

[–]flashbang123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well you said it best, 'the downfall of ESPN' and they are losing money fast. Disney investors are pissed and eventually Mr. Market will make ESPN/Disney do something: for better or worse.

[–]HerrAdventure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ESPN died years and years ago.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've stopped consuming less, and ESPN is a great example. I just don't pay attention to things that tell me what should be important, and my life has changed for the better.

[–]xprimez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats why skip went to fs1

[–]ABProsper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm somewhat convinced that Red Pill men should not watch sports but participate in them instead.

Team sports are a bit of a problem but MMA gyms are getting to be more common these days.

[–]balamory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Noone who makes these decisions gives a flying fuck about your masculinity or femeninity you twat, all they give a shit about is the dough... and the dough is trending in that direction. The kardashians and that "caitlyn jenner" i think thats her/his name are extremely popular thats the only reason... i would bet that viewership dropped before this happened... you merely are associating with yourself also leaving the viewership. Also a true alpha whouldnt give a fuck about any of this and whould watch it because he wants to fucking watch it.

[–]analyticaltoafault 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before it used to be more socially damaging to bother with politics at all, now it's more damaging to be not publicly announce all your good natured views.

[–]blue_27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) Anyone can legally change their name if they want to (this is still America) so, I will call him Caitlyn. (At the same time, I have to admit that I am gay for Lauren Southern.)

2) Don't forget that Stepen A. Smith was suspended for even suggesting that women might be able to limit or diminish domestic violence.

3) ESPN is owned by Disney.

4) Caitlyn Jenner also won "woman" of the year.

Welcome to Idiocracy.

[–]TheRedStoic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the up side, that many subscribers disappearing will force a change or lead to failure. I'm hoping.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to hear a good sports reporter who also calls ESPN out on their complete bullshit, listen to Clay Travis.

[–]kanyewost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whats with the female panelists who've never kicked a ball in their life being in every espn show from first take to soccer? Get the fuck outta the screen bitch no one cares about you

[–]ArkAngelEV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought the clear point of the decline happened with the whole Erin Andrews thing. Wasn't she caught admiring herself in full nude; thinking she was the hottest shit that had ever been born while talking to herself in the mirror ?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely agree. Espn has been this way for a while though. They supported Hillary and openly promote homosexuality and blm movement.

Hold this upvote for shining a light on this disgusting movement!

[–]boogalooshrimp1103 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dont forget they suspended stephen a smith when he talk bad about women

[–]Carson_McComas 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Why is accepting Michael Sam considered liberal and feminist?

Its opinion shows talk about Trump (negatively) more than they talk about actual sports.

Source?

They also peddle women’s rights, bullshit equality

These are bad things to you?

they consistently attack white male sports figures who don’t support the liberal agenda.

Source?

They also recently crucified Tom Brady for being friends with Donald Trump.

Like, one time a commentator did that.

Rather, it is to demonstrate that masculinity is under attack in all aspects of American society.

What does Donald Trump or being gay have to do with masculinity?

Granted, most of these are cable cutters

Well, there you go.

[–]Walkebe 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Source: Turn on ESPN Radio and listen for half an hour.

[–]dudet23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah. ESPN just pushes black masculinity. ESPN is a Pro-Black organization. They are hemorrhaging subscribers because, frankly, people are tired of them worshiping football players and basketball players as the holy grail of sports.

[–]rubenescaray -1 points0 points  (2 children)

I'm a Liberal and I am for masculinity, the media can wrong in a great number of ways, but I don't see the correlation.

It's not that Liberals tend to be betas, it's a MEN problem, every man needs our help, it's not down to politics.

[–]bestmaleperformance -1 points0 points  (1 child)

I don't subscribe to any political party, cult thinking benefits no one, but I think you are downvoted because there is nothing masculine or red pill about classifying yourself as a liberal. Also the media is wholey owned by corporations, owned by globalists, who have every interest in eliminating everything good in human life, without doing so, their agendas are at risk from violent uprising.

Liberals actually do tend to be betas, very much so, not all liberals are betas, some are a bit misinformed in what the liberal party stands for as a whole and have just cherry picked some of the core issues they agree with, thinking that makes them a liberal.

I'm actually curious what your 4 or 5 core beliefs of liberalism are. What exactly makes you consider yourself a liberal?

[–]rubenescaray 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think here people just grew up in right wing households and they think it's the way to be as a muslim who grew up un Saudí Arabia thinks it's the only way to be.

I believe in taxes when used to help the people instead of using it in just the military

I believe global warming is an issue and it needs to be addressed

I believe that health care is a right.

I believe all drugs should be legalized, taxed and regulated.

I believe woman should have the same rights as men but they will never admit that they have a lot more privileges than we do

I think that the red pill is great for sexual strategy, but I just don't see the connection between being from the left, the right and being aware of everything that's being taught here about women, about SMV, about us.

And I'm not even American.

[–]Yankee_Fever 0 points1 point  (1 child)

What the fuck dude, are you 15? We all stopped watching ESPN in like 2008. I diddnt even realize anybody still watched it.

I guess it makes sense that the kids in high school like gay shit though, considering their favorite rappers wear rainbow grills

[–]askmrcia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree, stopped watching it in 08. Lol.

I do believe the only people that watch it are kids in high school. And of course bars and Barber shops leave it on 24/7.

[–]Hillarysdilddo_2016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's all good man. Yes, you are spot on but look on the bright side.

ESPN is doing their part to push lard ass, beer belly, beta faggots to put down the beer and stop cheering to a black box on the wall. It might just be the kick in the balls these faggots need to finally wake up and start their path to redpill.

The ones that never wake up are the truly deplorable ones, that would not benefit from RP ideology to begin with. Yes, it sucks that these people will side with the enemy but at least the lines will be drawn and I'd rather be surrounded by self-aware individuals than mindless beer-drinking automatons.

[–]pantheratigr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

pretty weak evidence if you want to even call it that. Taking slight and issue with what bugs you shows more about your lack of red pill then does it for ESPN

[–]itsawomensworld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The worst is the hiring of female sportscasters who talk in deep voices. I hate that and they know nothing about sports.

Also, not calling him kaitlyn is wrong. He legally changed his name. I won't say she because he's a.man but Kaitlyn is his official name so I have no issue using it. Similar to Muhammad Ali, I have no trouble using it.

[–]Brian_SD -3 points-2 points  (1 child)

This has to be one of the lamest comment sections for this sub, ever. Jesus fucking Christ...

Fuck man, if you all need to debate whether or not watching football is Red or Blue pill. You don't get it.

I make 500k/ year, work out 5 days a week; hit 1200 in total combined lifts, run my own business, and yes... watch football some Sundays.

Red Pill = Living your life the way you want to, and not giving a shit about what anyone else thinks or says about of it. That's it; it's that simple... Fuck.
