I'm sure a lot of you all noticed this weekend that the admin of reddit went on a banning rampage, shadow banning tons of accounts and shutting down a huge number of subreddits related to the "niggers" subreddit.

I have contacted the reddit admin for clarification of what the rules moderators need to enforce to ensure we are in good standing. I'm sure nobody here is surprised when I say the admin were not forthcoming with any useful information, leaving a glaring loophole in their policies that allow a direct banhammer target on any group they dislike.

I messaged the admins:

Can you give me a definitive list of guidelines for moderating subs that can protect our users from potential shadowbans and protect us from possibly breaking the rules?

To which I got a curt and useless response:

Don't break site rules. That's a pretty definitive list.

The site rules are here: http://www.reddit.com/rules/

A brief look over the rules are, don't spam, no personal information, no child porn, don't break the site.. and finally, this overly broad and impossible to understand rule:

  • Don't ask for votes or engage in vote manipulation.

I was, of course, looking for specifics on this, so I responded to the admin with follow up questions, which have been unanswered as of this posting.

The main problem here is how much room they leave open for interpretation. We do not "manipulate" votes, nor encourage vote brigading- which is why we have instituted the "no participation" rules. But there are problems:

  • No-participation is entirely voluntary and was made-up by redditors, not officially endorsed by reddit admin.
  • No-participation does not guarantee that admin will see our posts as non-brigading.
  • The nature of reddit is participation across multiple subs. At what point does user participation across multiple subs become "manipulation" and how responsible will we be held for the individuals' actions?
  • If individuals decide to vote or comment in threads because they're linked here- or in spite of the link here, will our sub be held accountable for their actions?
  • Can the admin actually discern between participation and brigading? Is there a discrete difference?

It is clear that if this behavior was not desired, the staff at reddit would put an official stance together and potentially program limitations into the software to stop brigading from happening. But they haven't. There is no way to tell if you're brigading or participating. There is literally no difference. And the admin know that. This is how they maintain the prerogative to ban any sub they disagree with.

Making inconsistent rules that cannot be followed, or no rules at all, to ensure that everybody is breaking them but only the ones they hate will be removed.

If linking to other posts was discouraged, /r/bestof would be taken down.

If brigading other threads was discouraged, SRS network would be taken down.

If participation in other subs was discouraged, the software would not have vote and reply buttons.

There you have it folks, no guidelines, no rules, just a precarious line to walk of not breaking "our rules." Whatever they may be.

Of course the moderators of multiple subreddits have already taken action - including our sub- of making rules like "you must use NP links" or off-sub linking is entirely against the rules. These are desperate pleas to be seen in a good light by the admin, since they are there to appease them without any real knowledge if that's what they want, if that will help, or if the impending bans are coming no matter what we do. We are as mere mortals attempting to appease the gods.

It's obvious that moderators such as myself are set up for failure, how could I possibly enforce the rules of "don't leave our sub and comment elsewhere" when it is specifically that behavior we have no control over? To give us the requirement to enforce rules we cannot enforce is telling, sheds light on the clear practices of the admin on this site. Unless, of course, we don't have to enforce that. But you see, I have no goddamned clue.

To the reddit staff, if you manage to stumble across this post, I implore you to clarify. My guess is that you won't seeing as you've been largely silent up until now. At this point, we can only assume your tolerance of some subs and not of others shows your intention of controlling the message and is implicitly endorsing some views while attempting to silence others. If I'm wrong, please let me know.

In the mean time: my advice to the subscribers of /r/theredpill.

  • Do not participate on any thread that is off our sub. Do not downvote, do not upvote. You will be shadowbanned, maybe. Get a new account for going elsewhere.

We cannot enforce this, but as a tip, I recommend it. Become mere observers.

EDIT If things ever do go south, I will post announcements on http://www.feministvictims.com

Hey guys, I'm the head mod of SRSsucks, and I put in my 2 cents about this over here.

[–]Modredpillschool[S] 16 points17 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

Much appreciated. Puts my mind at ease.

[–][deleted] 28 points29 points  (2 children) | Copy Link

Haha wow, if they were shutting down subs due to vote manipulation why is srs still around? Oh I know...

[–][deleted] 29 points30 points  (1 child) | Copy Link

It has been suggested several times that some of the admins might actually be members of SRS, using alternate Reddit accounts. (This was mentioned before in /r/SRSSucks)

[–][deleted] 21 points22 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

I think that's a pretty safe bet to make.

[–][deleted] 26 points27 points  (2 children) | Copy Link

A couple of things of interest:

  • It's pretty well known that SRSSucks got neutered a couple of days before /r/niggers was banned. Their neutering was caused by "vote brigading" a post calling for violence in the wake of the George Zimmerman verdict.
  • Subs like SRS break every single rule in the Reddit TOS, including being racist and vote brigading but they seem to get a pass. Some SRSSucks people presented an admin with evidence of vote brigading and he did ban some SRSers but at that point his hand was sort of forced by evidence. On the other hand, whole subs like /r/niggers are being banned for much less evidence than what people are presenting about SRS.

The takeaway from this is that it's pretty clear that Reddit admins have an agenda and that rules don't really matter. Some subs can break them with impunity while others are forced to follow them to the letter. In the end, the admins are going to ban subs that they want to ban and they can always find a rules loophole to do it.

The popular opinion is that some of the admins are sympathetic to SRS and are toeing the line as far as SRS dogma is concerned. If SRS doesn't like a sub it's eventually going to get banned.

Another possible scenario is that Reddit is trying to "clean up" the site because they have found a potential buyer and are trying to make it look as attractive as possible.

[–]Netlinfo 12 points13 points  (1 child) | Copy Link

It's probably also about political correctness. When you have a sub that, supposedly, tries to show bigotry and "fights" it, it always looks better on the paper than a sub called "niggers". I think it's all about PR and political correctness.

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

I can't help but agree that /r/niggers had it coming. The account bans are what baffles me. The users of that subreddit should gather up and make a slightly more politically correct subreddit if they are truly wanting promote some sort of discussion. I'm not entirely sure what the subreddit was about, was it just immature antiblack memes?

I'll now be watching subreddits such as /r/whiterights which is currently being brigaded by SRS. However the discussion within the subreddit is very mature and white separatist, not supremacist. If they go then I've lost all hope in reddit.

[–]Raw_God 21 points22 points  (1 child) | Copy Link

Ultimately we're guests on someone else's site, and if they decide to get rid of us, that's their prerogative. Lesson: owning a house is better than couchsurfing.

[–]icallmyselfmonster 20 points21 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

When a service is free , you are the product. We aren't really "guests" its much broader than that. Reddit advertises itself as being uncensored. It just seem that with the recent bannings its related to corporate and affiliate interests.

The very thing that happened to digg just prior to it fading into most peoples distant memory.

[–]captshady 14 points15 points  (10 children) | Copy Link

Maybe a "Plan B" site is necessary, or some way of communicating with TRP subscribers in the event this happens?

[–]Modredpillschool[S] 17 points18 points  (8 children) | Copy Link

EDIT If things ever do go south, I will post announcements on http://www.feministvictims.com

http://www.puerarchy.com is our official home base.

You can expect to see us all there in case of emergency.

[–][deleted] 9 points10 points  (6 children) | Copy Link

You guys should get together and start a forum on one of those free forum places. It isn't like there is anything inherently great about reddit anyways.

[–]veggie_girl 11 points12 points  (4 children) | Copy Link

Hosting your site anywhere that isn't owned by you is a bad idea. Reddit works because it's 100% community driven and one login works across all communities. It's more of a giant community center with different rooms than it is a website. But, we mustn't forget that Reddit is owned by a corporation and it is a for-profit company.

I think reddit may soon go the way of digg due to its policies. Any organization controlled by feminists cannot last. With that said, I'm all for creating a non-profit replacement for reddit. That would be THE site the internet needs, but not the one it deserves.

[–]TRP VanguardHumanSockPuppet 2 points3 points  (3 children) | Copy Link

I think reddit may soon go the way of digg due to its policies.

Reddit already has gone the way of digg. You should have been here four years ago, before they began implementing subreddits as a solution to the influx of new users.

Reddit used to be a place for meaningful discussions.

[–]MaunaLoona5 points [recovered] (2 children) | Copy Link

I was under the impression that subreddits is what allowed reddit to scale. Are you saying that that's not the case, or that it happened at the cost of meaningful discussion?

I was under the impression that meaningful discussion simply retreated farther into the depth of reddit and away from the main subs.

[–]TRP VanguardHumanSockPuppet 4 points5 points  (1 child) | Copy Link

You are correct, reddit introduced subreddits in order to accommodate the enormous influx of new users.

But the Eternal September effect is more powerful, and so posting standards really came down all over the site in spite of the subreddits. You can still catch glimpses of the old reddit in places like /r/DepthHub, but for the most part it's harder to have meaningful conversations before some cockstroke turns a thread into a pun waterfall so he can get karma.

[–]MSoftHarem 11 points12 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

It is a great platform, honestly, but as we've seen the policies are very questionable.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

Also RooshV's forums perhaps. I know he spends a lot of time on Reddit & TRP. Roosh if you read this you should consider starting up a Red Pill subforum.

[–]VaginalAssaultRifles 2 points3 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

Ha. How about a better reddit, not run by hamfisted liberal feminists?

[–]INomYou 9 points10 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

An unnecessary move off reddit would severely reduce potential reach of red pill theory and practice. Reddit aggregates traffic and a fraction of that traffic finds and subscribes to /r/theredpill. Source: me.

Offload to a different site/bbs and the pipeline shrinks. Less change/member input = more echo chamber and no new development. It's a win for SRS without having to do anything other than head fake.

My recommendation: Keep your shit tight. Ride out the storm. Tone down the agro for a while. As fun as it is to call out feminista solipsism, word gets around. Dont feed their machine which needs a constant target for its hivemindnanger to survive. Without it their matrix slowly loses inertia to hampster distraction. This is the time to put the 0 in 101.

Internet attention span is capricious. This too shall pass. "Look - a white night to fawn over and shit test. Go get 'em ladies! You'll fuck him up in no time!"

[–]VaginalAssaultRifles 4 points5 points  (1 child) | Copy Link

Remember, /r/jailbait didnt actually break the rules. Except for the "don't think something we disagree with" rule.

[–]AlwaysLateToThreads 1 point2 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

To be fair...it had pics of jail bait.

[–]icallmyselfmonster 4 points5 points  (10 children) | Copy Link

In some of the threads since the banning, people were listing what they would like to see gone next and there was a huge amount of posts saying r/theredpill

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points  (1 child) | Copy Link

Banning lots of Subreddits is a bad idea. It will piss people off, and if people get pissed off, they might leave Reddit altogether.

If you think for a second that angry people won't leave Reddit in droves, then you need to remember what happended to MySpace.

[–][deleted]  (7 children) | Copy Link

[permanently deleted]

[–]icallmyselfmonster 3 points4 points  (6 children) | Copy Link

Also there is a huge amount of hatred against /r/atheism in general. Always accusing the users of being militant. As an atheist myself who left a cult, I find /r/atheism to bland to be actually enjoyable.

[–]veggie_girl 2 points3 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

They won't ever get rid of /r/atheism. The subscriber count is far too high, making it far too valuable.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (4 children) | Copy Link

A cult? What?

Now I'm curious. Could you elaborate more on that?

I subbed out of /r/atheism early on. Still had some funny material, but not worth my time overall.

[–]icallmyselfmonster 7 points8 points  (3 children) | Copy Link

I just wrote a massive reply and my computer shutdown unexpectidly

Well the cult in question was Jehovah's Witnesses. We could argue whether it is a cult or not all

day, but any religion that will let children die because of an ideology you would have a hard time

of convincing me it is not a cult.

The reason people visit subs like r/theredpill or even r/niggers is not because they are inherently

misogynistic , sexist , anti-religious or racist. Like myself they are just de-stressing after work or after difficult social interactions where we constantly have to be constrained by environmental pressures to conform. In work the inertia behind the movement to stamp-out any deviation for what is deemed acceptable is impossible to overcome, if you voice your opinion to the contrary, you will be eviscerated.

In the entire experience of my life all I have ever seen is people with sensibilities, feminist, religious, LGBT (I am Bi myself but don't affiliate myself with the community) the politically correct. Is that they are people who can not operate with any sensibility. They don't any tolerate transgression against their ideology. Even in cases where it might be justified (do you think white people in South Africa might have a genuine ill feeling towards blacks right now?)

They operate just like a cult, they proselytize the weak, they infiltrate, they corrupt, they destroy descent, they ignore rational, reject reality.

Reddit for me seemed like a bastion of freedom, where expression contrary to the norm was at least tolerated. So it got popular, the early adopters as most early adopters are were men. But as with almost every positive institution, endeavor, breaking ground in human history made by men. Women and the lazy wanted it to be made a "safe zone", something for "everybody". But rewards are gotten by risk and danger. Making it a "safe zone" dilutes what it is and diminishes its return.

The language they use in arguments, they way things are framed , like "when did you stop beating your wife", you can't argue against them, they use herd and mob tactics to dismiss you. The real racism and sexism is speaking for black people , women or other "disenfranchised" group and saying that they are not intelligent to see some of the things as jokes. Or an arena where people should be encouraged to speak freely. To at least see the diversity that is humanity for all its ills.

Humans simply did not evolve to live in communities so large anthropologists recognize that humans for hundreds of thousands of years were only able to live in groups as large as 100 (this is also seen in chimps). The issues we are having can't be squashed by holding everything up to an inflexible ideology. And what gives the frothing at the mouth disciples the right to impose. With out an outlet things will get worse for people.

The Internet and even somewhat reddit gave people that outlet in a relatively save environment and just like with how Atheism was co-opted to Atheism plus. They corrupt when there is no need. They scream sexism at things which are not, often they are not even intelligent enough to see some things they dismiss as racism is in fact sectarianism.

I am not the most articulate person and it is a big failing of mine. But these moral police are far from moral. It is purely out of self interest and entitlement , with out actually contributing anything to the understanding of the human condition.

Fuck them. Reddit is dying. But just like how even the best pirate websites like suprnova died something better and less prone to damage will come about.

Thanks for the informative post, RPS.

I hope you are planning an escape route. This community should not die on the day reddit pulls the plug.

The arrogance you encountered is just a reflection of the power relationship. All consumer internet companies are like this. I have listened to abuse drones cackling over lengthy emails from "wrongly accused" users.

What's the plan if TRP is banned?

[–]veggie_girl 3 points4 points  (6 children) | Copy Link

Reddit is open source. Wouldn't it be possible to host reddit yourself and recreate the subreddit on your own domain where the admin cannot delete it?

[–]Modredpillschool[S] 4 points5 points  (5 children) | Copy Link

Looks resource intensive, certainly not cheap to run. They recommend an environment with at least 4gb RAM, for a decent VPS we'd be looking at around $100/month to start..

[–]veggie_girl 1 point2 points  (2 children) | Copy Link

With 10,000 subscribers the ad revenue could easily pay for that. Assuming you use the same non-intrusive ads that reddit does.

[–]Modredpillschool[S] 5 points6 points  (1 child) | Copy Link

Being optimistic, I'd say it's unlikely we'd get even half our users to move - and once we're off reddit, the new subscriber pipe would be cut off, so we'd slowly slip into a small rut of a hundred or so dedicated users actually visiting.

[–]veggie_girl 1 point2 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

Good point. Better to play it safe.

[–]PolegarVermelho1 points [recovered] (1 child) | Copy Link

It's less than half of that. For instance, on Digital Ocean, the 4GB plan is $40/m.

[–]Modredpillschool[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

As somebody with experience with VPS hosting, any 4gb plan for $40 is likely a fly-by-night. I've never had luck with somebody that cheap.

[–]thejynxed 1 point2 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

From some rather recent Reddit drama, here are some things we figured out:

1) Not ok to vote or comment if you do not sub to that subreddit. You will be SB'd if an admin takes offense to what you do, at their whim. Do not in any way, shape, or form post/vote under your main account to anything submitted by a member of SRS or other protected groups, ever.

2) SRS is protected by the admins, period.

3) NP is useless, as users just disable the stylesheet, and SRS and their like-minded subreddits, refuse to implement it anyhow. Also, the admins don't care if you implement it, they'll still SB at their leisure.

4) IF you decide to post content from other subreddits, make it a SCREENSHOT of the post/content. This is the only way the admins have even tacitly given approval to, to avoid banhammers. You can comment and vote in that post all you want. The key is not voting or commenting in the original source post.

[–]TRP Vanguard: "Dark Triad Expert"IllimitableMan 2 points3 points  (2 children) | Copy Link

You should make an internet forum for the red pill running off a cheap server, use a free forum software like phpBB, get someone with the skills in the community to make an adequate forum skin and get a mod made to upvote/downvote forum posts like here on Reddit. That way, you'll be the admins, you won't have people above you in bed with advocates of an enemy ideology merely tolerating your existence whilst waiting to "build evidence" to wipe you out.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child) | Copy Link

I was about to post something similar. In addition to that: why is the sub hosted on Reddit? Is it because it's easier to spread the word?

I have a feeling that if this were hosted on a regular forum, we'd have less members than we do now, but of course I could be wrong.

This sub is an amazing community, and has lots of great resources, but damn, if this whole site isn't filled with drama. As if we needed something like r/thebluepill!

[–]TRP Vanguard: "Dark Triad Expert"IllimitableMan 0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy Link

It's rare I believe in a community, but this community is fucking great.

I would fully support the move to forum software/something other than reddit if it became a necessity to the survival of the community. Obviously the numbers would take a hit, but the sub already has a reputation so it wouldn't take long for people to track it down through a simple google search.

[–]RNAofYouListening 3 points4 points  (1 child) | Copy Link

/r/niggers got banned because people were inciting violence in the wake of the trayvon martin ruling. It's foolish to think it was anything else.

As much as I don't think anything TRP is doing currently is against the rules, or that anything with regards to, for example, the kickstarter debacle, was in the wrong, TRP needs to be more about debating and informing (yes, free of censure) and not a circle jerk about how much women suck.

It needs to be reiterated that TRP doesn't hate women. We very much like women. Why would we spend so much time discussing them if we didn't? We certainly don't disregard their sexual rights, otherwise we wouldn't even care about their mindset, and we'd all be in prison for sexual assault. lol. TRP is about understanding how women work, and understanding how to attract women from a man's perpective. We get shat on because we cite evo psyche and biology, which is apparently not in vogue among the normally scientifically-minded reddit. Personally, I'd prefer that we refrain from rants and anecdote whenever possible, but I recognize that not everyone on reddit is a phD who reads evo psyche all day, and most learn from experience. I think that's fair.

As long as TRP sticks to information, stories (via posts from this sub or elsewhere), tips, and blogging, we'll be fine. This sub is hurt by the people who come from /r/mensrights etc. and treat TRP like a "movement"--a crusade against feminism. We know feminism's lame, but we're not warring with it. Claiming we are, and brigading etc, hurts what TRP is actually about, and probably gives feminism (and ironic appeal from women to men to "give" women rights) too much credit.

Now, it would be nice if SRS and it's sister subs would stay out of our shit, but I guess that's too much to ask.

I never participate in downvote brigading. I read and move on.

[–]Flapped 3 points4 points  (1 child) | Copy Link

I've been lurking this subreddit for a little bit now, but I thought I'd share this with you guys just to keep the subreddit safe. I enjoy the posts here and learn something new constantly from you all.

After going through all the drama threads, it's pretty apparent that the downfall of that subreddit was NOT due to the racy content (dat pun). As you can see, /r/beatingwomen still exists.

Basically, what happened is that SRS/angry politically correct individuals got themselves accepted into the /r/niggers community and maybe even got one or two of themselves into the moderator position, and started doing what they could from there to ensure the sub got banned.

It's a travesty to see what happened to that subreddit, and it sucks to see how adverse SRS/feminists/bluepillers are to opposing opinions and viewpoints. Although I wasn't fully sold on the whole "niggers are scum" thing, they definitely had a few funny/informative posts that I enjoyed.

The issue here is that this subreddit also takes a non-politically correct approach to something, femininity, which may have us targeted by angry femnazis. The only real thing that we can do to ensure the safety of our opinions/views in this subreddit is to make sure that the mods don't do anything stupid. I'd highly suggest not adding any mods, because you never know their intentions.

tl;dr - According to the reddit mods, the issue was not vote-brigading, it was the actions of the moderators. Just as long as our moderators don't go full retard, we should still be safe.

[–]Alaskan_worm -1 points0 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

Although I wasn't fully sold on the whole "niggers are scum" thing, they definitely had a few funny/informative posts that I enjoyed.

No, they really didn't. I'm glad that shit sub is gone.

[–]TRP Vanguardnicethingyoucanthave 1 point2 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

Here's an idea: keep this subreddit as a place to discuss non-reddit stuff.

Set up another site, a tumblr or whatever, and post links to AskMen, AskReddit, etc. threads (the posts we currently label BluePillExample) over there.

Reddit is a discussion forum where it takes like two seconds to create an account and comment. They can banhammer people going from one subreddit to another, but what are they going to do about groups coming in from off-site? Are they really willing to spend all their days banning IP Addresses?

As always, there is a technical solution: allow small subreddits to require subscription to the subreddit for at least a day or so before a person can post or vote. Let moderators see their subscriber list and remove people from it.

That would take care of 90% of the "brigading" (a ridiculous issue to start with).

[–]TehKazlehoff 0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy Link

perhaps its time to pull the whole subreddit off of reddit and into its own, seperate forum because of the touchy nature of the subreddit?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child) | Copy Link

This sounds like a fairly radical recommendation, let's ease it up:

  • Participate in anything not related nor opposed to TRP, like /r/DIY

  • In opposed or related ones, like /r/relationship_advice, comment, but do not vote.

I cannot resist commenting, but not voting is easy, and the rules focus on voting, not comments.

[–]Modredpillschool[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy Link

It's a guideline, we won't be enforcing this one.

[–]thecajunone 1 point2 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

After the whole kickstarter thing with Tofus guide I don't have faith at all in the internet. They will do whatever they want, I suggest we keep our heads low and not even mention it.

[–]AlwaysLateToThreads 0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy Link

The feminine imperative is going to shut this shit down.

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points  (1 child) | Copy Link

[–]AlwaysLateToThreads -1 points0 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

Me and my niggas don't mind.

[–][deleted] -4 points-3 points  (6 children) | Copy Link

OK, I have so many questions:

What is "no participation?" What is brigading? What are NP links? We're not supposed to link to other subs? We're not supposed to participate in other subs? Are we supposed to have separate accounts for each sub we subscribe to? WTF does any of this mean?

[–]RedSunBlue 5 points6 points  (5 children) | Copy Link

WTF does any of this mean?

It means read the sidebar.

[–][deleted] -4 points-3 points  (4 children) | Copy Link

Well it's easy to see why you made endorsed contributor.

[–]RedSunBlue 3 points4 points  (3 children) | Copy Link

Yes. It's partially due to the fact that I read the sidebar.

[–][deleted] -2 points-1 points  (2 children) | Copy Link

It's obvious you're very passionate about the sidebar, as such I have scoured it, and after some linking, found most of the information I requested. As much as I've enjoyed this exchange, sadly, I will no longer be requiring your services. Many thanks.

[–]RNAofYouListening 1 point2 points  (1 child) | Copy Link

Non-participation links mean that you can't upvote or downvote (and maybe can't even comment upon) anything in the link. The link looks like a normal reddit link but has an "np" in it.

Vote brigrading happens when someone doesn't use an np link, links to another post, and the subsequent visitors from another sub either upvote or downvote the thread/comments to the point that everything gets fucked up, and the actual opinions of the people in the sub are not heard. We're not supposed to be doing that, according to the admins, although truthfully, other subs do it regularly.

You can use any account you want, at the risk of it getting banned or doxxed as a result of you posting on this subreddit.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy Link
