If you ask girls which Disney Princess they like, they'll say Ariel, Jasmine, Elsa (Frozen), or Snow White. All of which who were born in aristocracy.

None will say Jane (from Tarzan), Meg (from Hercules), or Mulan -- all of which who had to "real" work on their own. I thought it was funny observation.

Mulan is my favorite. (RPW here)

It's because most people don't associate Jane, Meg, Mulan, etc. as being princesses. Of the girls you mentioned only Mulan is part of the Disney princess franchise and even then she isn't as marketed as the others. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disney_Princess) Also Cinderella and Belle weren't born aristocrats and they're pretty popular.

Disney Princess:

Disney Princess is a media franchise owned by The Walt Disney Company. Created by Disney Consumer Products chairman Andy Mooney in the late 1990s, the franchise features a line-up of fictional female heroines who have appeared in various Disney franchises.

The franchise doesn't actually include all noted princesses from any Disney media as its name suggests, but only certain members are commonly used, mainly from animated films. The eleven current (2015) members of the franchise are Snow White, Cinderella, Aurora, Ariel, Belle, Jasmine, Pocahontas, Mulan, Tiana, Rapunzel, and Merida. The franchise has released dolls, sing-along videos, apparel, home decor, toys and a variety of other products featuring the Disney Princesses.

Cinderella and Belle were married into aristocracy. That's plan B.

I'm pretty sure their looks have a lot to do with it as well.

Neotenous features are generally more attractive, particularly to prepubescent people, be they large eyes, big heads, longer torsos, or light skin/eyes/hair.

It's also worth considering that Jane didn't practice hypergamy, but the complete opposite. She did something that only a man could ever do (and even then very few men), which was to shack up with some random jungle boy.

I like Ariel because The Little Mermaid was the first Disney movie I fell in love with. I also really have a thing for mermaids. I love fantasy and Mermaids are my favorite fantastical creatures.

Are you a girl?

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
