It's good for everyone, who ignores it as manipulation. It's one of the cases, where going against the "wisdom of crowds" is good.

E.g. slim women benefit from fat acceptance.

The whole 'dad bod' hype is the same thing as with the trash you read in girl magazines, for instance that it would turn girls on when a man takes out the garbage.

The only thing I don't understand is: why? Why do girls promote this dad bod so much?

When they're talking about dad-bod, they mean strong but without having definition, still masculine, just not 'cut'.
