Meta[Mod] Use adult words (self.TheRedPill)

submitted by Modredpillschool

I've been, and will continue deleting posts any time I see the term "feels" (used as a noun) or purposefully misspelled shit. (Or saying something "don't real," or "this hurts my feels". What is this shit??)

Don't be fucking retarded.

This isn't fucking advice animals.

Edit: Clarity.

UGH! I hate "sexy times." It reminds me of 2nd graders who are afraid to say the word "sex."

[–]Thekaiser316 31 points32 points  (5 children) | Copy Link

Can't forget "ladybits"

[–][deleted] 8 points9 points  (3 children) | Copy Link

Tbh it sounds like something you would tell a Butcher to get for you. "Some Ladybits please!".

Sure you want some "i got frienszoned" with that?

[–]notnotnotfred 4 points5 points  (3 children) | Copy Link

I still have a hard time picturing what it is supposed to mean.

[–]angelothewizard 1 point2 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

A canoe filled with the fluid used by douches?

[–]LordDongler 0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy Link

"Douche Canoe" was a hated tripfag on 4chan until 2011, when his whole trip was banned.

[–][deleted] 11 points12 points  (1 child) | Copy Link

Could I also add that:

Woman = one female

Women = many females

[–]Scarlett_Begonias 26 points27 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

Womyn = Run, run fast.

[–][deleted] 48 points49 points  (18 children) | Copy Link

Along the same lines i'd like to see more adult and clinical terms used to describe Red Pill phenomena. While they may be fun to use at times, terms like "hamster" and "cock carousel" make us sound juvenile, sophomoric and hurt our credibility.

[–]r_rships_account 5 points6 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

"Cock carousel" is too vivid to give up ...

[–]QuietlyLearning -2 points-1 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

The hamster is the combination of cognitive dissonance and rationalisation. There is no need to type out the entire idea; that is what the metaphor is for. Understanding that the hamster is present in all humans is important.

The Glossary in the sidebar could be replaced with the link in the post. They both serve the same purpose; redundant data isn't useful, especially when incomplete.

[–][deleted]  (11 children) | Copy Link

[permanently deleted]

[–][deleted] 8 points9 points  (10 children) | Copy Link

It's saying that they're rationalizing and using circular logic - like a hamster running in a wheel.

And cock carousel is a fucking stupid phrase. It makes TRP look super juvenile, bitter, and gives more ammo to those who would call this sub misogynistic.

[–]Rienfleche101011 5 points6 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

You can always suggest another term for "cock carousel".

But honestly, who gives a shit if they see us as misogynistic?

We're always going to have a PR problem.

[–][deleted]  (8 children) | Copy Link

[permanently deleted]

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (2 children) | Copy Link

Lol, cause it is. Sluts have lower value in terms of LTR partners, therefore that is a negative trait. We don't praise negative traits, so therefore we must be shaming them. Anything that points to a difference between sexes is considered misogynistic, therefore everything talked about here will be considered misogynistic, who the fuck cares?

Talk about ridiculous terms, you can add slut shaming to that.

[–]dgfhggj 1 point2 points  (1 child) | Copy Link

Sluts have lower value in terms of LTR partners, therefore that is a negative trait.

Why ?

[–]Scarlett_Begonias -3 points-2 points  (4 children) | Copy Link

From what I've seen, most of you do feel like that. I think terms like "cock carousel" can give a perfectly logical and reasonable discussion a sort of aura of misogyny, and distract from the actual point.

[–]enticingasthatmaybe 4 points5 points  (2 children) | Copy Link

Please take me down the logical path that starts at "cock carousel" and ends at "I hate women", otherwise please be quiet.

[–]Scarlett_Begonias -3 points-2 points  (1 child) | Copy Link

When you respond to a woman's posts, even those that have nothing at all to do with sex/promiscuity and reveal nothing about said woman's experience in that regard, with things like "Shut up and go ride the cock carousel some more" in lieu of an actual response, it's not a hard leap to make.

[–]enticingasthatmaybe 1 point2 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

Please take me down the logical path that starts at "Shut up and go ride the cock carousel some more" and ends at "I hate women", otherwise please be quiet.

Being stupid and unable to form a coherent argument DOES NOT equate to "I hate women"!

[–]puaSenator 0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy Link

I've been saying this for ages. A lot of the shit sounds misogynistic which not only gives people outside reason to fuel a stereotype, but welcomes misogynistic people in because they think that behavior is welcomed here.

[–]bannana -5 points-4 points  (2 children) | Copy Link

I'm just a tourist around here and I can't even begin to take you all seriously when you say "hamster" and "cock carousel" . Not that I matter in the slightest but you will lose potential fellows by using these terms.

[–]jinxedsoul 4 points5 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

What makes you think we care about attracting more followers?

[–]binarypolitics -1 points0 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

There's nothing wrong with those terms.

[–]MSoftHarem 18 points19 points  (8 children) | Copy Link

Talk like Reddit on the rest of Reddit. When you're in here put on your big boy pants and talk like a goddamn man.

[–]cooledcannon 4 points5 points  (3 children) | Copy Link

feels is 4chan.

[–]binarypolitics 0 points1 point  (2 children) | Copy Link

[–]binarypolitics 2 points3 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

Care Factor: 0

[–]r_rships_account -1 points0 points  (1 child) | Copy Link

"Big boy pants" sounds as juvenile as any of the terms proposed to be avoided.

[–]Endorsed Contributorpontifx 10 points11 points  (9 children) | Copy Link

I think this is a shitty policy because you are removing the opportunity for a poster to misplay and sound like an idiot. I think it also adds unneeded work for the mods which should be focusing on real issues.

Who gives a shit if someone talks like they have FAS let them get downvoted into oblivion.

Forcing people into their big boy pants means they are just pants.

[–]Modredpillschool[S] 14 points15 points  (5 children) | Copy Link

You clearly misunderstand how the growth will affect the sub. If we allow a small amount of creep, it will be the old users who are crowded out by the idiots.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (2 children) | Copy Link

I'm with RPS on this one, the last thing we want is for TRP to go the way of /r/seduction, which is exactly what happens when people are allowed to use improper language.

If someone walked into a business meeting and gave a presentation about the new "thingamajiggy" that's "like really cool, and good, and stuff" that shit wouldn't fly, and it shouldn't fly here either.

As far as this making more work for the mods, maybe a guide/sidebar post on not speaking like a child? At the very least, hopefully this will get enough attention that people can reign themselves in.

Edit: If someone is going to quote SRS or another subreddit/source that uses the aforementioned vernacular, it may be advisable to place such text within quotes EX "shitlords hurts my feels" so that it is clearly ironic.

[–]QuietlyLearning 0 points1 point  (1 child) | Copy Link

when people are allowed to use improper language

Stephen Fry has some words on improper language.

I agree with RPS. The less fluff we have in this community, the better conveyed the information is. To be quite honest, the sidebar may need a bit of tidying as well, but that is beyond my scope.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy Link

My own poor word choice comes back to bite me.

I suppose I should say I would prefer a more academic tone to the language within the subreddit.

[–]Endorsed Contributorpontifx 0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy Link

I think your plan works with enough capable mods (which is my doubt though the ones we have so far are quite excellent). This war of words will need soldiers. I still think it's shitty but I don't mod this place so really I don't know the amount of absolute drivel you have to trudge through so I have a shiny forum to look at.

[–]jinxedsoul 0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy Link

This is exactly why I support this new rule.

[–]VianDawn -1 points0 points  (2 children) | Copy Link

The men want to keep company with men. If someone can't fill the big boy pants, this is not the place for them.

[–]Endorsed Contributorpontifx 4 points5 points  (1 child) | Copy Link

Maybe, but they are not big boy pants when they are forced on you. Those are diapers.

[–]VianDawn 1 point2 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

If you need to be forced into big boy pants, then what on earth are you doing at the Red Pill forum?

[–]carlsaganfuture 12 points13 points  (2 children) | Copy Link

Or saying something "don't real". What is this shit??

Surely this is a parody of SRS, where that phrase comes from? "Misandry don't real, shitlords."

[–]gprime312 2 points3 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

Seems that OP didn't get the memo.

Speech is cultural

YEP! Just don't root for the home team in Australia, unless you and your partner really like whatever team is involved, in that case root away! BTW, rooting in Australia is a slang for fucking.

Likewise, if you're an Aussie don't ask for a removal service when you come to the US or you're likely to have 1-800-GOT-JUNK at your door. Removal companies are moving companies down under.

Though in all fairness the female Australian accent is dam near the sexiest sound on earth..

Ebonics isn't street speech. Some wouldn't even classify it as English. It's a morphed form of a language that came about from the slave trade. Why someone would want to speak the language of uneducated slaves (regardless of race) is beyond me.

http://cla.calpoly.edu/~jrubba/Ebonics.html

[–]sfstexan 2 points3 points  (4 children) | Copy Link

I'm going to take the opposite side to this. Ebonics is like a dialect in a sense. I think white people tend to go to broadly with the ebonics = uneducated schtick... and honestly when non-ebonics speakers try to speak ebonics, they fuck up the diction and it actually sounds pretty offensive.

It's not just butchering English for the sake of butchering English - it has its own proper diction to it, as it evolved over time just like any language or dialect has.

For this reason... I don't see it as a bad thing to teach or study ebonics. It could be quite an interesting subject for someone interested in language and linguistics.

[–]CitizenDane27 1 point2 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

It's more of a social studies class than anything, but instead of some historic language that's not really relevant anymore, it's something modern and current. That's not necessarily useless information.

[–]veggie_girl -1 points0 points  (2 children) | Copy Link

Promoting Ebonics is promoting illiteracy, in a way. People should not be speaking it around children who are susceptible to its influence.

http://www.wsws.org/en/articles/1997/01/ebon-j13.html?view=print http://www.rethinkingschools.org/publication/ebonics/ebdelpit.shtml

[–]sfstexan 1 point2 points  (1 child) | Copy Link

Did you even read what you just linked to?

I read both.

First link is some comi/socialist garbage of a website.

Second link is actually a study that proves the opposite of what you just said -- saying that ebonics pronunciations have no effect on literacy.

[–]veggie_girl 0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy Link

Yup. I was sticking to the opposite end rather than finding the reasonable ground so that you would make that comment and we'd find it. :)

[–]cynwrig -2 points-1 points  (1 child) | Copy Link

Can you believe they have classes on it?

Well, if ebonics isn't your cup of tea, you can go to England and take classes in Cockney. The effort to preserve local dialects and patois isn't uncommon.

[–]veggie_girl 0 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy Link

Oh god. Not that. I'd rather learn Sentinelese, arguably the most difficult language in the world. Which I will NOT be learning ever.

[–]INomYou 1 point2 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

Some of this will need to happen over time given how engrained many of the terms are. For starters: update the glossary with preferred terms/vocab so as new subscribers join and post it becomes a self-reinforcing feedback loop. Key is to keep the meaning and intent while losing the adolescent tone. We can and should still have some fun and I like the frequent use of acronyms since it requires some investment in learning the ideas to read posts, but I agree we do ourselves a disservice when we come off sophomoric. Men speak clearly.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

Can you delete posts where people intentionally censor themselves? There's nothing I hate more.

[–][deleted] 10 points11 points  (3 children) | Copy Link

Agreed. The cutesy-poo vernacular of the Internet is very womanly and unbecoming of a man.

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points  (1 child) | Copy Link

I think it is pretty obvious when spelling mistakes are accidental vs. what he is talking about.

[–]TRP VanguardYouDislikeMyOpinion 1 point2 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

I think people are misunderstanding this mod announcement. I don't think it means that you can't say things like "sexy times". If a guy is writing a field report and he feels like using the word sexy times, that's fine.

The problem occurs when in situations like the following:

OP: My ex was a slut.

Poster: You're a slut shamer!

"sexy times" is something that is understood by everyone to mean fun sexual escapades. There is however no unanimous agreement between everyone as to what a slut-shamer is. What happened in the discourse between the OP and the Poster is that the OP said a premise, and the Poster responded by using "name-calling" which is the lowest type of argument in the argument pyramid: http://scientopia.org/img-archive/ethicsandscience/img_914.jpg

Furthermore, what ends up happening is that people start discussing the meaning of the word. See these threads to understand how deep it can go:

My Theory about "victim-blaming" and "slut-shaming"

http://www.reddit.com/r/MensRights/comments/1bqiua/men_should_have_the_right_to_give_women_safety/

Me arguing with Feminists about "victim-blaming" and "slut-shaming". I answered every one of their questions until they couldn't find any holes in my argument and I got banned.

http://www.reddit.com/r/AskFeminists/comments/1bil30/why_do_so_many_people_have_the_viewpoint_that/

This is why it's unproductive to have shit like "don't real", "you're a shamer!". If you have something to add, make it productive and explicitly refute the central point of the person you are responding to.

[–]RedSunBlue 3 points4 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

As long as we're on the topic:

Don't start off your posts with "Apologies for bad grammar" or "Wall of text, don't judge".

If you don't care enough to present your thoughts in a readable format, I won't care enough to read them.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child) | Copy Link

Any man who uses the term "Significant Other" should just cut off his penis immediately. Holy shit i can't possibly express how much i abhore this phrase. Saying my "Significant Other" is literally implying that you are not complete as a person or a man without this woman in your life.
